This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I know it is coming off as hostile, but I just refuse to believe they can't do better than this when it comes to generating content.

And no, see Jong is the exact wrong person to interview Pundit. Jong is Pundits pal. Luke I can't fault so much, because he's (according to the fiction we are playing along with) the "InterviewER".

Have Luke interview Kevin Siembieda. Or Jeff Dee. Or Kevin Long. Or Bill Coffin. Or Rob Kuntz. Or Darlene Pekul.

The idea that "Hey, go get Luke and have him interview all his pals, and we'll put it up online to impress everyone" is just about the stupidest thing I've ever heard of.

I suggested Jong because interviewing Pundit presents some logistical, as well as some personality changes. ;)

Again, the people willing to step up. *shrug* Not everyone is willing to put themselves out there.

But I think you are giving the gears to the wrong people.  If you really want to hear Pundit interviewed [by someone that he doesn't scare the crap out of] then pester Pundit and I guess Jong.

Jong is not the person. Someone not intimidated or hostile, but not a friend either. One of the valid points AM makes here is these are buddies interviewing each other.

QuoteMy guess as to why you hear the same people is they are the ones that are stepping up. (( Well that and maybe, just maybe, there are at least a few people interested in what they have to say. ))

I don't doubt there's a fair audience interested in what they have to say, by web standards - which is the proper standard to measure interest in podcasts, after all. There's definitely a larger audience who doesn't know them from Adam who might hear some ideas they like if they were attracted to listen regularly to podcasts by names they actually knew. If the podcasts are all Forge guys all the time, it's preaching to the choir - same as if it were us non-forge guys all the time.

But honestly: do you think anyone else even been contacted? I bet you they haven't. I bet you it went like this:

A: "Hey, you guys are always interviewing each other and that gets some comments going.." (eDITORS NOTE: COMMENTS FROM THE SAME PEOPLE, ALSO BUDDIES INSIDE THE WIND TUNNEL, EVERY TIME).

B: "yeah..."

A: "So interview each other again and we'll stick it in our magazine..!"

B: "yeah!"

A: (rubs hands together) "Now I gots me a piece of this podcasting craze!"

Considering it's been posted to the whole 'net, this is the only place to have acknowledged its existence, so far (that i know of).

For an interview to be of substance, you need the interviewer to be removed from the interviewee. Ask hard questions, present another point of view and get some discussion going. Otherwise it's an infomertial.

It doesn't even have to be hard questions or confrontational. But it comes down to this:
The entire premise of an interview is that one person is asking another person questions that he doesn't already know the answers to. Instead we get this Tiger Beat promotional crap that the forgies are always doing, anyway. And the big loss here is that.. Pelgrane Press stands to actually gain so much more in the way of audience if they present some variety. And there's absolutely no shortage of people they could have an interviewer talk to.

Instead, this movement has officially become the artistic equivalent of Christian rock.

Again, Pundit is a special case. In so many ways. ;) Mostly it's his location. Although you might be able to swing some sort of long distance interview? Maybe it's just that I wouldn't see it as worth the bother? I wouldn't say that of the other people on AM's list mind you.

Just a guess that that's why Luke was asked to do it. Friends or not. I've heard a couple of his interviews before, that is him suppositly being interviewed but he's the one that ends doing a lot of the questioning. He has this natural "so exactly what do you mean by that?" bent to him. The interviewer tossed him a softball and you could hear him working to make it into a 'hard' question (AKA one of substance) by asking the interviewer exactly what he ment.

Yeah, I can't parse this. Am I supposed to start up a gaming company now?

This is another one of the unique things of RPG Fandom. We accept the publishers and promoters in our communities as equals, but they occupy a totally different niche from us, and they are here to make money off of us. Thats why I have the right to criticize.

In exchange for this acceptance in our community where they post in our forums and so on, publishers (indie or not) have certain responsibilities to us as consumers.

Possibly. He's a rather intense, aggressive young man. He comes across well in person, but not always so by text, particularly when he's feeling aggrieved.

No. Do what you say must be easy. Fire off some emails and get people to do an interview.

Or keep bitching and moaning from your armchair. One of those two.

Perhaps someday you'll meet me, I suspect I leave a similar impression. :)

P.S. Though the group of people that would refer to me as a 'young man' dwindles. ;)

I don't mean that you have to be a ball-buster or diametrically opposed to the interviewee for it to work as an interview. Just, you know, not from the same club.

Thank you for your suggestions. We've done three interviews before, one with Ken Hite, one with Brennan Taylor and one with Robin. Interviews form a very small proportion of our output. I'm pretty pleased with Luke's interview, but by all means don't listen to it.

See Page XX is free, and mostly written by volunteers. If you or anyone else are interested in interviewing someone "more substantial" by all means, interview the shit out of the them, and if I've heard of them and it's halfway decent I'll publish it.

I agree, Dan. There is a nice space between blowing kisses at each other and facing off with loaded weapons that makes for interesting interviews.
