This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The new http://www.pelgranepress.com/SeePageXX/April2008.html">See Page XX is up. It includes articles by Robin D Laws, Julia Ellingboe and Paul Maclean, new Esoterrorist theme music and article by James Semple, and Luke Crane interviews Vincent Baker.

Not a bad issue...

I found that Paul Maclean's "Caught on Tape: Recording Tabletop Games" was less of a how to and more of a personal history and so doesn't deliver as the title might suggest.

I wish someone could please explain the forgie mania for interviewing the shit out of each other at every opportunity...

The great thing about podcasts is there is almost no danger of their words entering your brain unless you deliberately listen.

In this case, Luke Crane interviewed the shit out of Vincent Baker because I asked him to.

In the next couple of months, he'll interview the shit out of Jason Morningstar, Clinton R Nixon and Jared Sorensen. Also, we hope he'll interview the shit out of Robin D Laws and possibly Paul Czege at Origins. You know, I think "Luke Crane interviews the shit out of..." might be a better choice of title.

If there are any other designers you would like to undergo this experience, by all means tell me.

Because these blowhards interview each other constantly.

We can hear this interview, and then we can hear the EXACT SAME FUCKING GUYS interview each other on any number of podcasts. Then we can hear them interview each other at someone elses podcast. In some cases you can have forgie A  interview forgie B, and post it at his website. Then forgie B will interview forgie A and post it at his website. Then there will be a podcast where forgie A, B, and C have a group and interview each other and post that, like weekly. Every single guy you have posted has been in multiple interviews already, and all these guys ever talk about is how great they think they are and discuss the other forgies who are slated to be interviewed next. The SOLE exception is Robin Laws, who is actually interesting and/or relevant to actual gaming.

Have you guys just... run out of ideas?

I generally like the fact that people are trying to get out of there, but be careful not to oversell. It's too buddies discussing topics, with some edgey questions. It's not exactly Paxman, is it? :raise:

Also, I wouldn't take anything too personally here, there is a broad Anti-Forge sentiment which is discussed in a lively way. The hobby needs it, I'm sure you appreciate that. Take the hits lightly and roll with the punches. :)

I'm waiting for someone to interview the shit out of clash.  Maybe Bill and clash could record themselves chatting at a bar. Keeping the tape rolling till one of the two passes out.  I'd download that. :D

But then I was fine listening to the interview that's got AM's panties in a knot, so....

Yeah. That struck me that way too. But they've got some more details if you follow the link at the bottom of the article.

I did that at last year's GenCon. I'd publish Bill's true feelings about squirrels, but so far he's keeping up the payments so I can't release them...

The interviews themselves are not at issue.

The issue is.. it's the same dudes every time. Saying the same stuff. And it all just amounts to the same infomercial for their stupid cult.

Yeah, interview Clash. Interview Rob Lang about Icar. Interview Kyle about snacks. Interview Rafael Chandler about art. Interview Rob Baker about Forgotten Realms. Interview the Pundit. Interview S. John Ross. Interview Gareth Hanrahan about Traveller. Interview random people in the street about whether they've ever heard of Gary Gygax... Interview Ed Healy or Wolfgang Baur about Kobold Quarterly. Or Gareth Michael Skarka. Or Malcolm Sheppard. Or Jason Buhlman. Or someone...anyone! ..who actually has something insightful, interesting, or intellectually honest to say about roleplaying as a pastime, hobby, phenomenon, or industry.

Or do the exact opposite; just continue along the with same shmucks and crap-peddlers as always. They're already on the list and all close personal friends. How can you possibly go wrong, right?

I'd pay money to hear that.

You have a valid point there, AM! It seems like most of those guys are being interviewed somewhere on the web every week. Interviewing me is a bad choice as I would be holding back so hard from being silly that I would sound monosyllabic. I also don't know if I could keep away from silly accents and funny voices. The others, though would be inspired choices!

Ummm, yeah.

But I think you are giving the gears to the wrong people.  If you really want to hear Pundit interviewed [by someone that he doesn't scare the crap out of] then pester Pundit and I guess Jong.

My guess as to why you hear the same people is they are the ones that are stepping up. (( Well that and maybe, just maybe, there are at least a few people interested in what they have to say. ))
