I am off on my yearly pilgrimage to the Pennsic War, indeed, in one of the biggest heatwaves of the year. The realm of Mithniera has a long history, one often bloody with war and battles. As it sits upon the high road and is the point of entry to the eastern realms, it is often the wall that blunts these nations' attempts to invade the west.
 
Once a province among many within the Tharm Empire, Mithniera found its beginning with the fall of that bloody realm. Civil wars that raged about the lands, and the Baron of Marth lost control of the region and was forced to sue for peace with his chief rival, the Baron of Mithniera. Soon after the war the new realm was founded, but the new king was slain in battle, and as he had no heir, the barons gathered to elect a new king. Once more the Marth family was put down in their bid to be king and the quiet baron Gulimordi was elected. His support among the other barons was not asked for, but many saw that he would make an able king, one that would allow the barons much freedom within their own lands to do as they saw fit.
 
As the realm expanded, grew, and prospered, its king also gained power and skill. Now the royal family rules with a surer hand, and the power of the barons is less, but still felt within the court.

While many spellcasters do know the 0-level spell of stabilize, few of them use it often, the reason being that pretty much any healing magic can do the same stabilization trick only better. Yet easy availability of this orison and its close range when compared to touch-delivered cure wounds spells grants it enough usefulness to survive in the spell lists.

A spell that taps body resources to fight off death still has potential, and new uses for it are possible. The simplest of them require trained use of the Heal skill, while more complicated ones bring development of new spells and magical items into existence. All of them increase your chances of survival for those who got unlucky enough and dropped to negative hit points.
