This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Hellas currently has a kickstarter for a 2nd edition here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1269000670/hellas-worlds-of-sun-and-stone-rpg. Its become a real nailbiter with less than $3,000 needed in the last three days.

If you are interested, consider pledging. Hellas is a cool RPG which would really benefit with a revamp of its system (despite the Omni system holding up remarkably well after 20 years).

EDIT: This was meant to go into the Lounge forum, but I am unable to delete or move it. If the mods could do so, that would be appreciated.

Silverlion

Sadly, I can't afford to--I've kickstarted too many books too close back to back for Hellas, and can't do another. Still its an awesome game system, and slightly streamlined/more examples would be cool.

Skywalker

This is a bit of a thread necro, but I just received my RPGnow coupon as a Kickstart backer for Hellas Second Edition. Its available to everyone here: http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/105903/HELLAS%3A-Worlds-of-Sun-and-Stone-2nd-Edition

I am not a Hellas expert and have only flicked through the PDF but two things are noticeable:

1. Though the art was good before, the artwork has improved with many of the weaker pieces being replaced by better pieces.
2. The rules seemed to be cleaned up. There are less skills, a new statblock presentation and combat made much more sense on a quick review.

Looking forward to delving into this one and seeing it in the physical form.

I'm happy to hear that the skill bloat was cut down. I haven't gotten my .pdf for backing the kickstarter yet (you said he mailed out the coupons for those already?), so would you mind talking about what got removed or squashed together?

Sure. I am not a Hellas expert, so I will be better at answering direct questions.

Number of skills has almost halved. Its still a decent sized list though and is now:

Athletics
Animal Handling
Command
Computers (Specific)
Deception
Deduce Motive
Diplomacy
Disable Mechanism
Drive
Etiquette
Evade
Handicraft (Specific)
Heal
Influence
Instinct
Intimidate
Investigate/Search
Literacy
Lore (Specific)
Medicine
Mode
Mounted Combat
Navigate
Pankration
Parry
Perform
Pilot (Specific)
Profession (Specific)
Research
Resolve
Ride
Science (Specific)
Sleight of Hand
Speak Language
Stealth
Survival (Specific)
Torture
Tracking/Shadowing
Trading
Weapon

The combat/rules chapter is easier to navigate IMO and this seems mostly due to better layout, clearer wording and having a summary up front.

Well, this thread has been kicked into oblivion as it has been moved to New and Adverts (which is put on the tracker) and originated from before the KS ended some 6 months ago :D

I may start up a new thread on Open as the idea is to move to discussion of Second Edition and not pimp the KS.
