This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Guardians: Bruiser's Handbook

With Guardians we tried to create a superhero roleplaying game that was as close to OD&D + GH + EW as possible, then build from there. The significant changes were ascending AC over descending, and ability based saving throws (piggybacking off the great Swords & Wizardry system, but enhancing it with adding ability score modifier based on circumstance - this turned out to work well for a superhero RPG). Plus some additional mechanics to make it superheroic. And as an added bonus, it is the Night Owl Workshop game that the RPGPundit least liked in his reviews of our games!

Despite that the game has done well since 2016, nearly rivaling Warriors of the Red Planet in sales. But it has been in need of a book of NPC's, and is finally getting one!

The Bruiser's Handbook features 20 super villains & heroes, new Bruiser class abilities, and 100 superhero adventure hooks.

If you want to know what OD&D would have been like had Gary and Dave chosen to make a superhero game instead of a swords & sorcery game, it may not have been exactly Guardians, but maybe it could have been. :)

Hello, Thor's Nads! I run the Randomworlds TTRPG Discord chatroom and hold Q&A sessions for game authors there. Would you be interested in coming by to discuss Guardians?

Past guests include Kenneth Hite, Robin D. Laws, Greg Stafford, Greg Stolze, Marc Miller, Jonathan Tweet, Margaret Weis, Mike Pondsmith, Ken St. Andre, Peter Adkison, and Mark Rein•Hagen.

This is a free service, although tips are welcome at https://ko-fi.com/gmshoe.

Your Q&A will be promoted on my Facebook feed, at 13 Facebook groups -- 16 if it is a Kickstarter -- and on three major RPG web forums (TheRPGSite, RPGPub, and Enworld). In addition, the log of the Q&A will be maintained on my blog.

Here's the schedule: https://tinyurl.com/randomworlds-schedule

(The standard time slots are 7:30-9:30 p.m. Central every day of the week except where otherwise noted. However, I can also do Saturdays or Sundays at 1:00 pm Central.)

Here's the shortcut to the chatroom:

Here's my blog, where I save the Q&A logs: http://gmshoe.wordpress.com/

And here's the Q&A format: https://gmshoe.wordpress.com/qa-format/

I should also mention that game authors are always welcome to hang out with us and discuss their products, and we have quite a few authors who do so on a regular basis. A Q&A simply gives you the floor to yourself. Stop by and check us out! :)
