Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Secrets of Blackmoor

I have been going around letting people know about Arnecon 1 - The official Dave Arneson and Blackmoor Bunch game convention.

I've been talking to the old gamers today. We are having some really interesting games for people to try.

Ross the Dwarf - Strategos napoleonics miniatures demo game
Phil Grant the King of the Elves - Dawn Patrol WWi aerial combat
David Wesely the Half Elf - 2 Braunstein sessions
David Megarry the Thief - Dungeon! board game demonstration on Dave Arneson's ping pong table

Paul Stormberg - Greyhawk original maps and dungeon using OD&D, Blackmoor using original drafts from DA5, Chainmail miniatures demo battle
D. H. Boggs - Tonisborg and perhaps some sort of surprise offering
Griffith Morgan (Me) - Tonisborg, Fletcher Pratt Naval Waregame, TFT: Melee and Mocha Sunday morning breakfast battles

Currently talking to a creator of PLATO Empire computer game (1975) Chuck Miller. And we will be hosting demos of the Plato interface where all the early computer dungeon games can still be played

The convention is turning into a Blackmoor reuionion with 15+ original players and their spouses in attendance. There may never be an event quite like this.

Malia will be on hand to sign your old books with faux Dave Arneson signatures as well. (she learned to fake his signature so she could make fake school notes to ditch classes as a teen.  :D )

How I wish I could go, but alas I'm taking care of my Mom and can't pay for someone to do it.

Here is why this forum tends to be so stupid. Many people here think Joe Biden is "The Left", when he is actually Far Right and every US republican is just an idiot.

Even if this initial turnout is low we will do another.

Please share the link to anyone you know who may be interested in this.

You on Mewe?

Someone asked this:
"How does this compare to Davecon?"

Two different conventions. I was skeptical of Dave Con at first, but I think they do a good job of producing a small local con. Why not try both? One in the spring and one in the fall.

Arnecon is officially sanctioned by the David L. Arneson estate. At least 15 original Blackmoor players will be coming to it as well.

It's a low key event, but the guests are very special people who have never truly been recognized for their contributions to RPGs. It will be a mix of RPGs, board games, and war games. We will also have an early computer game room where people can try the very first D&D computer game and others from the '70s.

It should be really fun.

Feel free to cut and paste this over there.

It's amazing that Dave Weseley is doing Braunsteins in 2023. When was the first? 1969?

He ran his first at Christmas of 1968.

This is totally awesome.

Sadly for me, the notice is way too short, but I'll put the same weekend in my calendar for next year just in case.
