This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Anyone know this FREE SPACERS rpg on Kickstarter?

It sounds intriguing. Apparently, its been playtested at GenCon, PAX, etc and wondered if any of you tried it out.

Excellent! Pitch the game! Why should we be interested?

Especially if we already own a dozen sci-fi RPGs?

What makes your game special / unique / different in ACTUAL PLAY at the table?

XophRA

Thats a lot of sci-fi RPGs... You must buy them all; If that's not a good enough reason to get Free Spacer, I'll tell you some more.

Pitch, if you looked at the Kickstarter you saw the pitch. What makes Free Spacer special? It is far future sci-fi, not OSR, not pulp, not investigation, but science-fiction. Contemporary sci-fi, the future from now. Everything in the game is designed for sci-fi. We even have space internet that uses folding space to sync the internet much like a version control process.

While the game has you design the setting, you build it on a back bone of science and technology after the end of a long war between three great powers. You make your own sector, which is embattled in a cold war between factions of these great societies. There is a Cold war phase that acts as a faction turn for the GM to simulate this the cold war conflict and generate you contracts.

Player and GM actions are managed by Contracts that direct the groups activities in the sandbox. Keeping the game from floundering. Contracts reward most of the XP as a in setting Cargo. Cargo that is used to upgrade you, your ship, and your gear.

The dice mechanic feels like you're doing science. It feels like you are tweaking the levels of a complicated ship system as you gather advantage. You, as the player, roll all the dice. You roll a Salvo... two opposing Dice Pools... D10 task dice that can result in hits and D6 Threat dice that can result in misses. You minus misses from hits and you get your result.

Combat is not the most advanced systems in the game, insteam Projects are. These are about doing science, fabricating something you need to win the day,  traveling through space, or investigating the source of a signal.
