This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). True Blood - Would you please put your clothes back on?

So I'm watching True Blood. I really like it, it's funny, it's a turn on classic vampires, but it's still sort of classic (not sparkly bastards), and, since the show is actually more about the mysteries than the vamps themselves, the fang shtick doesn't get too old. But I do have a little gripe:

Yeah, I do love seeing Anna Paquin's tits, and Rutina Wesley's tits, and... boy, every-other-woman-in-the-show's tits... but come on already! Next ep, Gran will come back as a vamp and wiggle her tits for all to see while giving Eric a blowjob! Do please stop fucking and carry on with the bloody story, people. I really don't see how's necessary to strip bare every single person in the show for a romp. It gets tired. I enjoy seeing pretty people naked, and I really don't care about the moral issues (I think it's adults only), but... man, every single ep? With little or no significance to the story whatsoever in most cases? It stops being "oo, naked lady" and goes on to be plain boring.

Love the show, though.

So, what dy'all think?

It doesn't bother me, and it's less boring to me than some of the more conventional vampire trappings of the show. So much of it feels like it's been re-hashed a million times, why not throw in some nudity to make it seem interesting again?

I think True Blood was obviously created and marketed with a heavy dose of sexuality in mind, and so I don't really see it as getting in the way of the show -- it pretty much is the show.

SO....,
How much are the DVDs?

Anyone know a good bargain on them?

You say what you like, I personally will never get tired of seeing Anna Paquin naked. Personally, I would be strongly in favour of a campaign being launched to lobby for her to be naked for the entire episode, every episode.

Alright, alright. I see that maybe I'm being a little geezerish here. It's just that sometimes it feels like I'm watching a fanfiction.com version of some show I like. Ah, well. I guess I should stop complaining and enjoy the tits.

I've never really understood the appeal of naked celebrities.  There are so many fabulous breasts out there on professional breast-bearers that it seems redundant.  Shut up and act the part or go into softcore porn.

Breasts are never redundant.

I should point out that, as near as I can tell, the vast majority of the fans are chicks. They don't appear to be bothered much by the nudity either.

I, for one, find Ms Paquin's so called 'acting' to be far more distracting.  She really does her part to bring the quality of the show down.

As an aside: After borrowing season one from one of the aforementioned 'chick fans' I also borrowed one of the books just as a comparison point.  Blegh.
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

Really? Shit. I managed to... ahem... get them... and have been meaning to give them a try. Ah well. Can't be worse than Twatlight.

It may be that I merely had one of the worst books in the series, anything is possible.

For reference: I had the second book (Dead till dallas?), which read mostly like two seperate ideas for two seperate books stitched together to make a single book. Pacing was strange, plot resolution tended to be by deus ex machina, and quite frankly 'things happened'... which is not generally a good sign in writing.... though I may be getting into obscure personal lingo on that last one.

My curiousity came from a random internet comment regarding a later book or, possibly episode, regarding Sookie Stackhouse being an 'unreliable narrator'... meaning, of course, that the narrator is a dirty filthy liar.  Having heard of, but generally being unfamiliar with this technique I was most curious to see it for myself, but my sample is rather small.

Nah, I understand you just fine. I don't usually like that either. But I'll give them a try when I finish my current list (eight books at a time, last count, with 2 more on the waits), and if I remember I'll let you know.

Hmmn. I just finished the first book, Dead Until Dark, yesterday. I was not impressed. Me no recommend.

"We need a distraction. I say Zoey gets naked."
"No."
"I could get naked?"
"NO!!!"

when I watched FIREFLY I thought it was funny how quickly Joss Whedon got nearly his entire cast naked.

Yeah, sometimes nudity is all good times, sometimes it gets distracting.
But I'm all for a little distraction.
