Title: Women Gamers You'd like to See Join theRPGsite?
Post by: RPGPundit on June 08, 2007, 04:29:10 PM
A thread over on The RPGPundit's Forum (the Mike Mearls' Penis thread) has prompted me to start this thread here.

Some time ago, we had a "who else would you want to see join theRPGsite" thread, that ended up being relatively successful in bringing in some interesting and valuable contributors to this site.

Now, JHKim has suggested that one of the reasons this place is a "Sausage Fest" (something I've acknowledged to be true) is that many people are here by invitation and no women are being invited.
Personally, I think that most people who joined here were not specifically invited to join, most found the place via my Blog, threads on RPG.net, other forums, or they were holdovers from the previous incarnations of this forum.

However, I know a good idea when I see one, so I figured to get the rest of the membership on this: in the interest of making it clear that theRPGsite would welcome women gamers posting here, can any of you think of any women gamers you know from other fora that you think would find this place interesting/amusing, and would not be afraid of a Free Speech environment where they would not get special treatment (for better or worse), and would revel in the possibility of participating in a forum that's no-holds-barred where you only score points based on the content of the contributions you make?

Let's brainstorm and see if we can come up with anyone, and if we can, let's invite them!

What's more, if anyone can think of other ways we can bring attention to the site for women gamers (or gamers in general), feel free to talk about that too.

I'd like Plume and Lolth, and if she's around Cynthia Celeste Miller (she hasn't been active even on her own lists lately.)

However, as much as I'd like them around to say what they want, I'm not sure if this is the best venue for that.

I'm not sure of specific ways to bring attention to this site to a specific not-me group though. I think each site has its own draws, and sometimes the draws of a site won't cross certain boundaries or interests.

GamerGirl from the SJG forums.

She loves TRAVELLER in almost all its forms, she is a major "STAR TREK"& Science Fiction  fan, can be very opinionated, plays rock & Roll guitar.......

.....she already has had to censor herself a couple of time for cussing over on the orange and Friendly.

Should I invite her ? Or would that be one TRAVELLER RPG fanatic too mamy ?

Well, invite away guys, though I seriously doubt Zdashamber would be interested in joining a place that was so "patriarchal" in its views, with evil masculine tools of oppresion like post counts. :p

Damn the Internet's capability to hide gender! And the written French language, too! (Just to be thorough.)

Well, invite him anyways. He's always had some interesting opinions to read.

I'd like to have Borgstrom around too, but I am certain she doesn't know who I am, and thus an "invite" would be meaningless / creepy.

Hi Shewolf.  Look, the thing about this place is that you really REALLY only get an "exit" if YOU decide to leave, or if what you do qualifies as an intentional massive disruption of the site.

So far, we've banned no one. Not one person has received a ban, temporary or permanent. We've done a couple of slightly more minor punishments but that's it.

In any case, Its up to you to decide how tough you are, or whether you want to go around fighting for that matter (nothing says you have to, there's tons of stuff that goes on here without having any elements of controversy or flaming to them; you pretty much only have to get into arguments if you WANT to).

And relax knowing that IF you choose to get involved in a flamewar, you won't get banned because of what you say, regardless of whether you agree or disagree with me.

But this is causing some serious thread drift. Anyone mention Nadin Brezenski yet? She made Future Nexus.

Which means Pundit equates sex with traffic on the RPGsite...

Anyone got a cigarette?

And no, Pundit, sorry to say to rabid creatures in one place would cause the end of the world...your virtue is safe.

Plus, this doesn't have the right vibe for me to get all flirty and such. This isn't Tangency after all.

Let's see, you declare women to be
1. Irrational
Quote from: RPGPunditgetting upset if you express male characteristics like, say, rational thought.

2. Sub-human
Quote from: RPGPunditin those very special moments, in the way women behave and talk and act in those moments, they almost seem like they're human.

3. Dishonest and liars except for those who openly charge for sex.
Quote from: RPGPunditProstitutes are easily the most honest women.

I can continue. This from a person who desires "intellectual honesty" from posters.

As I have said, I attempt to avoid posting anything directed at Pundit (which I am sure is his real name) due to the friction we seem to generate. However, even I have my limits.

I reiterate, asking a group who is considered irrational, lying sub-humans to join your site with honey coated words in order to appear tolerant is hypocrisy of the highest order.

This site, supposedly, is about calling people on their deceptions. I am being true to that, are you?

Bill (and yes, that is my real name).

Bill you've got it right. I didn't want to pursue this in Mearl's penis thread, but I was wondering if I was the only one who sees the hyprocrisy in the Pundit's words. Off course he's gonna counter "if their here about games..." but if the site's owner had made racial remarks as that of the sexist/misogynist ones you quoted, I would not bother posting here....the fact that I do post here after reading some of his remarks about women and the fact that half my crew are women tells you something of my hyprocrisy....

David R

Look, that was one thread, that was written just after a rather nasty break-up with a relationship.

For the record: I don't really believe women aren't human.  Nor do I believe all women get angry at rational thought (except when in a relationship, if any woman I've ever been in a relationship with was any evidence).

I do believe women are very different from men, but not in any way inferior.

And yes, I do still believe that prostitutes are remarkably honest women (you know exactly where you stand with them, whereas "girlfriends" will lie to you about what they're selling and what you're buying). In short, basically ever since that break-up, I have been of the opinion that "romantic relationships" with women are a waste of time.  I still have plenty of female friends, and lots of sex, which are two things women are just fine and dandy for.

Please keep focused people. If you really want to start a thread about cute gamer chicks you've met, do it on a different thread. This is one about trying to actually get more female posters on this group, and talking about "Pieces of tail" we found might not be the best way to do it. Nor, for that matter, discussion about my own personal views on women.  Feel free to start some other thread about that too, if its really a big issue for you. It isn't for me. The fact that I'm a follower of the Bill Maher school of male-female relations doesn't really have any effect on the sincerity of my invitation of women to this site, any more than Maher's views affect the sincerity of his invitation of women to his show.
