This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What's your Body Mass Index, gamer?

Inspired partly by comments in the Bacon Thread, and with the age poll as a precedent, I thought I'd see how healthy we all are based on a crude measure. How to calculate your BMI? Look here.

The categories are drawn from a chart at Wikipedia.

Answers to the poll are anonymous. Of course if you want, you can own up to your results in-thread.

~23.  My weight fluctuates a fair bit.

Also, I don't eat bacon.

Don't forget to click the poll!

Mine is about 23.5. In spite of being about mid-normal, I'd like to lose some weight just 'cos I remember feeling easier to move when I was around 120-130 lbs.

For the sake of comparison, I'm trying to find data for the American adult public at large, but so far I'm only coming up with partial statistics. Best I have right now is this pdf from the CDC. For American males age 20 and older in 1988-94, the results were

<18.5     :  0.9% (calculated from the data presented)
18.5-24.9: 39.3%
25.0-29.9: 39.9%
30+        : 19.9%

For American females the distribution was

<18.5     : 2.9% (calculated from the data presented)
18.5-24.9: 45.9%
25.0-29.9: 25.7%
30+        : 25.5%

Again, this is a crude measure of health/body condition. Males and athletic persons are probably misrepresented somewhat toward the "obese" end of the spectrum, due to higher muscle-to-fat ratios and the fact that muscle is denser than fat. But BMI is easy to calculate and I think it's a fair "first pass".

16.4. I'm in really good shape, but on paper, it looks like I'm starving.
God in the Machine.

Here's my website. It's defunct, but there's gaming stuff on it. Much of it's missing. Sorry.

I've got a blog. Do you read other people's blogs? I dunno. You can say hi if you want, though, I don't mind company. It's not all gaming, though; you run the risk of running into my RL shit.

I was going to say something along that line, because I calculated my peak competetive weight from when I was running long distance back in high school, and I came out with a BMI of over 21, even though I know I was at least 5 pounds underweight* and struggling to keep my weight up.

But, yes, it's a fair ballpark pass.

[*Edit: I just now calculated what "underweight" is considered to be with this contemporary National Institute of Health BMI calculator.  I had to go 20 pounds below what was considered barely underweight 20 to 25 years ago.  I suspect that there may be some inflation at work here.]

21.6. I'm long in the bones but carry too much Cheeto accretion around the midsection. Got into the habit of walking everywhere I go whilst on the dole, and now I keep it up because it's free and de-fattening.

Edit: alright I totally fucked this up.

Ok, I am not in the best shape, so it's 28.4; but it used to be much, much worse.
