This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What are you watching?

Bears winning the NFC Championship...

The Wire - I'm surprised for all the good taste here, nobody has it.
CSI - Vegas; the others only if nothing is on and the TiVo is out of good stuff. Even then, NOT MIAMI.
Criminal Minds
The Doctor (you know who)
Heroes
BSG
Tivo's been picking up Xfiles - always fun to revist.
I still have the last 4 episodes of The Sopranos to get to...
TiVo's been picking up lot's of great old movies - Rear Window, Charade, etc.
NCIS
I should really do this while in front of my TiVo so I could just look at the Season Pass Manager...

As for kids shows...Kim Possible, Jimmy Neutron, Spongebob, sometimes Fairly Odd Parents and lately the kids have been watching My Gym Partner's a Monkey (or something like that), though I'm not sold on it yet.

I refuse to let them watch Mr Meaty or whatever that creepy puppet show is.

What's Criminal Minds?

As for the Wire, it's pure word of mouth, over in the UK it hasn't aired and hardly anyone has heard of it.

James McMurray

I've heard of it, but have no idea what it's about.

Dude, number 3 on my list...your apology is accepted...:)

Serious Paul

Number 4 on mine. I am seven episodes into the first season, and it is shaping up very nice indeed.

I also have the first two seasons of The Shield on DVD, and I have seen all of the third, but not season 4.

My apologies, gentlemen...I must have crossed eyes reading through the lists...I've seen The Wire called the best show on TV, and I have to agree.  It's been great since the beginning.

Criminal Minds is a CBS show with Many Patinkin as the lead of an FBI behavioral analysis unit (BAU) - essentially profilers. They go around solving cases based on information they put together about the crime and based on the profiles they build from that.

One of my top 5 for this year, I'd say.

Hm, I'll keep an eye out for Criminal Minds, that does sound cool.

Serious Paul

Has anyone heard of Eyes? A friend of mine loaned me a season of it on DVD, and I burned it to my machine. I'd never heard of it.

James McMurray

Never heard of it, although apparently it was stillborn.

Speaking of The Wire, can someone give a brief rundown of what it's about?

Serious Paul

I have only seen six episodes, so bear with me: My brief synopsis is it is a grittier version of Law and Order that focuses only on the cops. Very realistic, and feels a little like what the Shield would feel on HBO.

James McMurray

That definitely sounds cool. I'll have to check it out. Anything that compares favorably with The Shield has to at least be investigated.

Thanks!

Serious Paul

No worries. I am six episodes into the first season, and I have to say it's damn good. Good pacing, realistic characterization and back drops. Funny and action packed.

David R

Oh yeah, I've recently begun following Extras. Some of my friends, who liked the Office are a bit let down by this series, but I like it.

True about the grit, however a large appeal of the show to me is that is also focuses on the criminals.  So an episode might bounce back and forth between the cops tracking down leads on a John Doe killed in the drug zone, and then bounce to the drug dealers/gangs trying to expand their territory, etc. etc.

So it really shows the same story from at least 2 different angles (a third angle would be how the city politics affect crimefighting decisions).

A really good show, with some really interesting, believable characters.
