This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

We got some bad news

Quote from: Mcrow;221331It should only be one surgery and she should come out of it looking like a normal kid without any developemental problems.

So that's good, but it's still a pretty major surgery that has risks.
My nephew has had major surgery many times for congenital problems, including jaw surgery and back surgery for scholiosis, not to mention breathing through a trach for four years.  However, he is still quite chipper.  Kids are generally surprisingly tough and recover well.

I hope everything goes well. Best wishes to you and your family, amigo..

Best wishes!

I'm sure she'll be fine! Babies are nothing else but resilient!

Babies are indeed the most amazingly resilient creatures - and that the surgical teams who operate on them are the very best people in their field.

Quote from: HinterWelt;221171You know Linda and my own thoughts are with you and yours Mike. Let me know if there is anything I can do and I will be in the car in an instant.

Best wishes,
Bill, Linda and Theo.

Thanks, Bill.

If she's only seven months old, she's not even going to remember it in a few years.  Kids at that age aren't aware enough of their surroundings to be traumatized by stays in the hospital.  And they'll sedate her so heavily for any operation and recovery she'll probably only have pleasant memories of it.

The key thing is to not let yourself stress over it, because infants can pick up on their parents stress, and that can make them anxious in turn.

Keep a positive outlook and everything will be fine.  Positivity is the best medicine there is.

I can (unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you wanna see it) attest to that.

I went through some tough health problems as a toddler and my traumatism have nothing to do with that and everything to do with current problems, such as a pissant ex, a dying computer and a maxed out credit card.

Good luck, to you and your family.

The baby in that photo is beautiful; you're a lucky dad.

I wish your daughter the best. I hope the doctors do a good job and your daughter will develop normally.

When is the surgery due?

Surgery is set for August 6th.

She will likely be in the hospital for 5 days or so.

Quote from: Mcrow;221138My daughter has to have major surgery, cranial reconstruction due to a birth defect.

It kills me that she's only 7 months old and has to deal with this sort of thing.

Surgery is scheduled for August 6th, she'll be in teh hospital for 5 days or so.

I have a feeling this is going to much worse on Me and the Wife than Izzy.:(

I haven't stopped thinking of little Izzy. I hope everything will go fine on 6th.

My thoughts are with you and your family.

PS: I like the way she looks like in the pic.:)
