This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The next new tech revolution?

Quote from: PseudoephedrineComrades, you should try to be nice to Nox when he is not being racist or abominable. This is a more useful way of encouraging him to give up these behaviours than knacking him non-stop.

Lovely sentiment.  But it's bollocks.

Nox is a nasty, shit flinging, misanthrope.  He goes out of his way to carry on one sided arguments with people he perceives to have a problem with - generally bannings/incidents from other boards - and whilst he does post some interesting things from time to time it doesn't detract from the overall atmosphere of spite he wears like a cloak.

The only way you'll get him to give up his racist/abonimable behaviours is to take him out to a field somewhere and put a bullet in his head.

less seriously?  i'm waiting for all the computers in the internet to come together as an AI.  it will hold us hostage via its massive databanks of porn.

more seriously, fusion technology, cold or otherwise.

Thus speaks the true voice of political correctness.

Despite having this thread derailed by assholes like stumpydave and worthless sacks of shit like koltar, there are some possible breakthru's on the horizon that might have major impacts on everyday life.

The recent "artificial brain made from rat braincells" has finally allowed scientists to observe thought and learning processes in minute detail as they occur, which could lead to new computer technology. (Although I'm a little puzzled at whey humans want to create artificial intelligence while basically discarding so much human intelligence...)

Scientists in england have recently produced artificial "quantum gravity" for the first time, and while the effect was minute it was 10^20 times more powerful than current theory suggested, meaning it may be much easier to 'warp space' than has been currently believed. This could lead to all sorts of interesting new things down the road.

Quote from: KoltarI have heard of this recent break-through called spellcheck.  Some people are using it when writing messages to each other on the internet.

Note that I couldn't correct the typo I made in the title, while this piece of shit could have corrected the typo he made in his post here.

 Oh my god!
That would be like the old Ray Bradbury story where in the ending all the phones in the world rang at once ...at the same minute because the Global  supercomputer or "AI" was waking up. The  telephones ringing was its first cries as an infant.

Specific organ cloning. Bad heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, eyes? We clone you a new one, with some 'fixes' if it has congenital defects (DNA manipulation). Since it's your own organ, should have very little to no risk of rejection.

Grow it right in a vat, none of this "Clone a whole person for 18+ year and keep em around just in case" sci-fi BS you see in movies.

Oh, and grow nerves too. Help people with nerve damage. That would rock.

I mean jesus. It's a DUNGEON. You're supposed to walk in there like you own the place, busting down doors and pushing over sarcophagi lids and stuff. If anyone dares step up, you set off fireballs.

High-tech vehicle improvements that they've talked about for years.

For example: A Heads up Display or HUD as a standard feature in most cars and trucks. As recently as a year there were articles that were saying this feature would become standard pretty soon.
That few seconds of  NOT having looking away to check the dashboard might mean the difference between being in an accident or not.

Heroism is no more than a chapter in a tale of submission.
"There is a general risk that those who flock together, on the Internet or elsewhere, will end up both confident and wrong [..]. They may even think of their fellow citizens as opponents or adversaries in some kind of 'war'." - Cass R. Sunstein
The internet recognizes only five forms of self-expression: bragging, talking shit, ass kissing, bullshitting, and moaning about how pathetic you are. Combine one with your favorite hobby and get out there!
