This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

It's not really worth watching.  At 100 minutes, it felt at least twice that long.

I just watched a movie called Holy Flame of the Martial World.  There it is.  I have actually found a movie that is crazier and more wtf filled than Zu: Warriors from the Magic Mountain.  This is worth watching just for how utterly bonkers it is.

Holy Flame of the Martial World is one of my favorite movies from that era (Web of Death is another good one in this category). I think of this stuff as Gonzo Wuxia. It is like anything goes. Buddha's Palm, the 1982 version, is pretty crazy as well

I have Zu on VHS. Yeah its weird. The wizard catching the demon meteor with his eyebrows is a memorable moment.

I watched The Electric State on Netflix yesterday. For an adventure/comedy, I found it dull and not funny. Even Giancarlo Esposito did nothing for this film.

Who the fuck turns something so somber and sometimes grim into a "comedy/adventure"???

Oh... yeah... Hollywood does.

That is a pretty crazy scene lol

My favorite section of that movie is the temple where Brigitte Lin is the priestess. For some reason I really like the blue architecture of it: https://youtu.be/8lvEbq_af0U?si=pMkDlM4mp1_qWFqn

With a few occasional exceptions, I have mostly given up on watching new movies

I went to the theatre to see Mickey 17. I walked out with 45 mins of the film left because it was terrible. The Mickey character reminded me of Simple Jack and the memed warning about playing such a character stands.

I saw Saturday Night the movie. I didn't really know what to expect going in but I just didn't get what they were going for with it or why I was supposed to care. I found the first thirty or forty minutes agitating to watch (which was kind of the point I think but I didn't enjoy it). Then I eventually starting feeling more engaged. Maybe I just don't care enough about the first episode of Saturday Night. I did like the performances. But those felt weird because it wasn't like the actor was just doing Chevy Chase or just doing Andy Kaufman. They were doing them in character. The scenes with Chase for example, except maybe for one key scene, felt like watching Chevy Chase in a movie, not a behind the scenes look onset (I don't know maybe they are all headaches and really act that way). I think I came away liking the performances but not the creative choices the movie made. It seems I am an outlier though so take my response with a grain of salt. Most of the reviews look pretty positive

According to Jim Henson and co from their brief time working on SNL... Behind the scenes was a mess.

I just watched Silverado for the first time in about 20 years, and it holds up. It's a nice middle ground between the heroic Westerns of the 50s and 60s, and the gritty, cynical westerns of the 70s. The cast is all-star for the late 80s, but it's funny because it's almost all actors you'd never expect to see in a western. Great score, too.
Playing: Mongoose Traveller 2e
Running: On Hiatus
Planning: Too many things, and I should probably commit to one.

I haven't seen that since I was a kid in the 80s. I remember liking it. That and Pale Rider were two from 1985 I saw on VHS and remember enjoying a lot

Had a glance at The Last Mimzy. A kids sci-fi movie from 2007 loosely based on the short story by Kuttner and Moore.

Why does it feel like it was made 10 years later for the woke mentality?
