I watched a wuxia movie set at an inn and I can't remember the name of it.  There's a fair amount of CGI so it's a fairly recent movie.  It's set at an inn in the middle of nowhere in the desert.  There are a ton of characters and subplots going on.  There was some official.  There were people who wanted to kill the official.  There was a bandit guy who looked like the official.  I don't remember what else.  There were a lot of characters and subplots.  There was also a sandstorm that uncovered a lost city with the last part taking place there.  It was stuffed with so many things that it was hard to keep track of what was happening.  Anyone here know the title of this movie?

That sounds like Flying Swords of Dragon Gate Inn. The first Dragon Inn came out in 1967 (by the same guy who did Fate of Lee Khan). The second one came out in like 92 (New Dragon Gate Inn*). The one you saw came out in 2011.

Three I have never seen before far as I know. I notice a few familiar faces though in Lee Khan from other movies of the era.

Fate of Lee Khan has a great cast (and a big cast). Angela Mao is in it, Hsu Feng is in it. Li Lihua and Tien Feng is in it. Of the three dragon inn movies, the 1967 Dragon Inn is probably the most important one. It is on the slow side but worth the watch. All about the building of tension. But New Dragon Inn is a ton of fun and has some truly crazy scenes (plus it has Donnie Yen, Maggie Cheung and Brigitte Lin in it). The Flying Swords of Dragon Gate movie, is more divisive. Some people like it, some people find the CGI too much.

Yeah, that's it.  I watched it again.  I forgot about the first part where Jet Li is fighting evil eunuchs.  That movie so crammed with stuff that I forgot a lot of it.

Yeah it is pretty lengthy film if I remember so it is easy to forget parts of it. The Eunuch in the first scene that he fights is Gordon Liu

It's like 2 hours long and it's a Tsui Hark movie so it's constantly throwing crazy stuff at you.  After I watched it, Tubi autoplayed on to a bonkers movie called 14 Blades with a scene where Donnie Yen beats up bandits with chicken bones while chewing on a chicken leg.  I watched it because I will watch anything with Donnie Yen in it.

Lol I haven't seen 14 Blades in ages. I watched his movie Enter the Fat Dragon last year simply because he was in it (it wasn't bad but it is kind of an unusual movie, and I think one of those new years films they make so it kind of had a weird vibe). I got my mom into Donnie Yen about a year ago by showing her all the Ip Man movies (she loved him and likes that he grew up in Boston). The role doesn't have a lot of screen time but he plays the evil eunuch in the New Dragon Inn movie (which Tsui Hark produced)

Tsui Hark movies very much are all over the map at times

Yeah, Tsui Hark definitely has a wild and unpredictable style—sometimes chaotic but always interesting. Enter the Fat Dragon was definitely an odd one, but Donnie Yen always brings something interesting to the table. That's awesome that your mom got into him through the Ip Man movies!

Ip Man was a good introduction to Donnie Yen. She watched all of them and kept saying "He is such a nice man" and was into anything else he starred in after that

I'm the weird guy who watched Rogue One in the theater because Donnie Yen was in it.

It's like Tusi Hark just takes every cool idea that pops into his head and puts it in the movie.  The results are all over the place but they are never boring.

That is one Donnie Yen movie I still haven't seen.

I like how varied Tsui Hark. And he has had a long career. His more recent movies are still a fun watch (though hit or miss), though I do tend to prefer his earlier work. I thought Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame was really good, and Flying Swords of Dragon Gate Inn is one I still like even though I know plenty of people are split on it. I am looking forward to his Legend of Condor Heroes movie

Mentioned this before but some personal favorite Martial Arts movies are...

Kid with the Golden Arm: This one has the best feel of a D&D overland adventure and I uded it as a adventure seed for an OA campaign.

Master of the Flying Guillotine: Creeped the hell out of me as a kid! But its a pretty ruthless movie and interesting for its focus on things not just the assassinations and rivalry. Was not so impressed with the sequel.

18 Bronze Men: Someone on this must have played D&D! aheh. Also was not so impressed with the sequel.

And several more. Been trying to pin down one that ends with the villain using his chainmail robes as a huge whirling boomerang.

The Kid with the Golden Arm is one of my favorites. I agree about the potential for gaming material. I have run so many escort missions inspired by that movie.

I liked the Master of the Flying Guillotine as well. I think that is the scariest one. I like the original Flying Guillotine as well and Vengeful Beauty (VB is a quasi-sequel).

18 Bronze Men is great too. I like anything with Polly Kwan in it (she just makes these movies fun)

That was a great movie.  After I randomly watched that, I watched every Detective Dee movie I could find.
