This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Dragonforce - 'Nintendo Metal'

I've been listening to what may well be the most wonderfully ridiculous band (that aren't Manowar) ever: Dragonforce.

some people categorise their hyperkinetic extreme power metal as 'nintendo metal' because it sounds like crazy video game music. So i'm wondering if there are any other bands that do stuff like this. It sounds like an awesome genre.
"Ghost Whistler" is rated PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned). Parental death, alien battles and annihilated worlds.

Power Glove might be what you're after.  They actually do video game speed metal.  This is my particular favorite being a long time castlevania fan:

Vanquish the Horrible Night

EDIT:  Oh and Horse the Band is a Nintendocore band with some pretty sick songs too:

Murder
"A thousand fathers killed, a thousand virgin daughters spread, with swords still wet, with swords still wet, with the blood of their dead." - Protest the Hero

Silverlion

It's quite funny in general. I rather like Dragonforce; of course I used to be pretty big fan of Metal of several kinds. (Metallica, Megadeth, Manowar, Blind Guardian; Yes I'm strange...)
High Valor REVISED: A fantasy Dark Age RPG. Available NOW!
Hearts & Souls 2E Coming in 2019

Spinachcat

If you enjoy Dragonforce, check out Edguy, Excalion and Hammerfall.   My current favorite in the power metal genre is Sabaton, but they aren't the superspeed freaks of Dragonforce.

Here's some Sabaton.

There should be some "how they do the guitar effects" videos that are a classic video game nostalgia trip.

Some of the (fanmade) songs for the Touhou shooting (and tea party!) videogames are rather metal. Example: Shoot Through the Galaxy. For the original gameplay music, Youtube search for Final Master Spark.

anyone into CBM 64 SID Style metal music should check out Machinae Supremacy...

Machinae is good, very good, one of my favorite bands.

Metroid Metal is also a must, as are the minibosses.

I'm not sure you can 'like' them; all you can do is marvel at their ridiculousness. :D

Indeed, they play so fast on their albums that they can't hope to match the speed live but their enthusiasm for rediculous complexity is good fun.

I bet they are utter shit live; you'd have to be bionic to play that stuff.

IIRC, I've been told Dragonforce is, indeed, quite terrible live.  I'd imagine Machinae Supremacy would be too, they're just too studio.

Metroid Metal and minibosses are supposed to be quite good however.  If I wasn't probably going to ship out by then, I'd be tempted to go to PAX just year just to see MM.

Like J Arcane said. I've heard the same thing. They get too drunk to even remember what they're playing part of the time. Fun to watch, but not to listen to.
Running: HarnMaster, and prepping for Werewolf 5.

I assume you have also heard of "The Black Mages", a bunch of Japanese guys who play Square/Final Fantasy music, and even play it live too!

One of the band members is also one of the original composers too.
