This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

From Free Speech to Religious Persecution in one fell swoop. Oh RPGSite, whither hast thou fallen?

Or more seriously, what is it about that thread that "isn't what we do here?" It had rondom bullshit, calling people names, and misunderstandings that lead to (in this case minor) feuds.

You can ask anyone. Those are the hallmarks of theRPGsite.

I know we don't avoid random bullshit.

I know we don't avoid personal attacks.

I know we don't avoid feuds.

What was the problem with that thread?

James,

I think the thing
Quote from: James McMurraythat "isn't what we do here"
is close threads.

That said, I've got no idea. I'm more curious why the fuck it was necro'd than why it was closed. And I really don't give a shit why it was necro'd.

Ah, I misread it as:

QuoteThis isn't what we typically do around here, but so I'm going to close this one

Is Pundit so afraid of Nox coming back that he'll close a thread Nox can't even post to in order to make sure it doesn't happen? If so, why not just ban the guy instead of topic banning him?

Total armchair psychic speculation?

it's a fear that Nox might have subscription on, and would receive updates as his thread is posted to, remember this place, and decide to stir up some shit because he's lonely.

Then why not ban the guy? Other than "that's not what we do here." Then again, closing random threads that aren't causing any problems, especially since everyone is told to restart the exact same conversation in another thread, also "isn't what we do here."

I feel like I'm spinning, and I see a drain down below. Why is that?

Grimjack

Of course I can't speak for Pundit (and he certainly doesn't need anyone to do so) but my guess is that despite the fact that it was a joke and didn't really have anything to do with Nox (or very little to do with him at least) the resurrected thread gave the appearance of being another Nox bashing thread and was likely to start another Nox-storm.

I can see the wisdom of not wanting to bring back Nox threads since things have been quiet on that front so that is what I figure the "Jinx" would be.  And since, unlike a certain other site, Pundit didn't forbid any future bagel threads (admittedly while defaming bagel lovers at the same time  ) I personally don't think my freedom of speech has been injured.

Okay, a bit off subject but did anybody catch that some poor rube on RPGnet has used the name Dominus Nox and has to put a disclaimer under his sig that he isn't "That other guy who got banned".  Cracked me up when I saw that, I may go register as JimBob or dare I say even :pundit:  Just kidding.

edit: beat me to it.  damn I gotta type faster.

James, you're an idiot.

The thing we "don't usually do here" is close threads. But I saw no reason to keep a thread about a guy who isn't even on here anymore going for no good reason, just to talk about Bagels.  Start a new thread about Bagels if you're so fucking upset.

You're several hours late in pointing out that I misread the sentence. In fact, it was me who beat you to it.

Thanks anyway. Loved the bile by the way. It made you look very manly.

Serious Paul

I think closing any thread for any reason is an grievous violation of what the spirit of this place was supposed to be. I am not over reacting in the slightest here. In all of Bulldrek's years we have never banned a user or locked a thread with out a users express permission, and the community's consent.

I think that is the bar that this site should attempt to achieve. Anything less is just that, less than free.

Feel free to disagree with me, as I am only expressing my own opinions here. I claim to represent anyone other than just that: me, myself and I.

Serious Paul

As an aside if I get enough users to agree with me that Someone here is a problem, can we then lobby for topics to be closed and locked? because that seems what this is leading to.

JongWK

Why not just remove Nox's subscription from the thread? It's less problematic and questionable than locking it.
