The Big Purple ?
Yeah, they got no sense of humor.
...unless a mod makes the joke - then its all hunky-dory.
http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=320512&page=4
So, light-hearted sarcasm is only okay over there if you have 2,000 plus posts or are part on the "in-group-clique" ? Oh well . This forum and the Orange and Friendly should be enough.
- Ed C.
Every now and then someone suggests in all seriousness that RPGnet should have a special "adult" forum. The mods haven't exactly been keen on the idea.
Eh, I manage to post a fair bit there and not get banned, if you avoid being rude it's fairly easy to get by there.
If you post a sarcastic message to a forum with over 35,000 users and you don't include a smiley, you have to assume that some of them (including a mod or three) are going to miss the humor.
If that topic is about something that comes up fairly often and gets shot down fairly often, the humor sensors shut down. It may not be so much "no sense of humor" as it is "I've seen that joke 1,000 times, so it's no longer funny to me, especially since you might actually be serious."
Didn't seem like a big deal to me.
As to not getting banned; if I can do it, so can you.
"A mod did not laugh at my joke in TT, RPG.net sucks."
I was the one who came up with the idea of a Toys/Collectibles forum for the Purple Palace. I argued for it quite a bit. I often saw cool lego threads and other toy threads which quickly got moved to Tangency and were scolled to oblivion as quickly as the clique could post about kittens and pie. I strongly felt the topic should be liberated from Tangency, because that section is suffocating to everything but clique topics.
Ideally, I had requested it's own forum section. Instead, it became a usergroup, which was a victory of sorts. However, being a mere usergroup doomed it to obscurity on the site. No one really knew it was there.
Thierry shows some keen understanding regarding the real activity on the site by posting:
Quote from: ThierryWhy change anything? Simply hijack Toys and Collectibles and put all your new political discussion in it.
That's practically a motto for the Purple Palace.
More constructively, there's the comment of:
Quote from: ThierryHow about the other way round? Each time you're tempted to enter a heated political thread, try to think of Toys and Collectibles instead. Preferably plushy.
That was really more my inclination. I tried to contribute something positive. A few people joined in. But, it apparrently wasn't an idea the Purple Palace wanted.
They'd rather have a forum about sex toys and/or politics.
Gabriel,
You actually had a good idea.
Thats not what I was referring to .
I was joking that if someone thought of "Adult toys" - then that was more likely to distract their mind than just thinking about "toys".
I don't care what sections they have on there. Its strange organization on there to start with.

(singing) "Let Big Pur-Ple Gooooooo..."
This is does smack of cross-forum poop-flinging, yeah. Technical problem reports are one thing - a sort of "Yeah, it's down for me too". Since TT got opened to unregistered guests again, anyone interested can read it for themselves. "The mods don't love me" ain't no thang. No they don't, but they don't ban you if you can keep your shit together.
Red doesn't always mean "warning", though warnings are given in red. Red just means "this text right here is current board policy, discussion will be seen as backtalk".
Yeah. This one is a lot of yelling over nothing I think.
Sorry, Koltar (or should I call you Kol-toad for the Noxious tone? :p ) but I think this one is baseless scaremongering for brownie points.
It's not even Entertaining!....;)
I'm not quite sure what your agenda is Koltar so why not lay it all out for and we can know exactly where you're coming from.
Why do we have to have an RPGnet thread on this board every fucking day? Seriously? Who gives a fuck what they do over there? If we all cared about what they do we'd GO THERE.
I thought you of all people would realize that theRPGsite is just the shit growing off the bottom of the RPG.net fungus. :)
Quote from: James McMurrayI thought you of all people would realize that theRPGsite is just the shit growing off the bottom of the RPG.net fungus. :)
It didn't start that way. In the old days this place was... well shit... it was a reaction to EN World. ;)

He wants to slyly create an army of sleeper agents who will, at a pre-arranged signal, march into the Backstage area at TBP a la
V for Vendetta and stage a coup by throwing Girl Scout cookies in the corner to distract the moderators from his evil machinations...
What do you think he wants? Duh. He wants to rag on TBP. What's his agenda? Ragging on TBP and having other posters who aren't so fond of TBP join him.
So, what's your hidden agenda in asking for clarification of the obvious?

Sorry but with him it's not so obvious. I don't really know the bloke but he seemed to come up on every thread in TBP's Trouble Tickets over the last 18 months saying how great the mods were then recently he's saying this type of stuff. Whilst I can see what some of you lot are saying, whilst agreeing or not, this bloke strikes me as full of shite. I just end up wondering whose arse he's licking.
Normally Seanchai I'd agree with that, but Koltar has struck me as a man with an agenda more than most other posters in the entire internet have managed to do.
I think his agenda is to suck up to everyone (except the local target dummies). That's just what I've gotten off the posts I've seen, and certainly not an in depth analysis.
Koltar sucks up, That One Guy Whose Name I Forget praises Nobilis, and Nox is a racist loon. Man, I love it when people fit neatly into boxes. It makes life so much easier. :)
Quote from: Garry GI'm not quite sure what your agenda is Koltar so why not lay it all out for and we can know exactly where you're coming from.
He's an utterly pathetic suckup, who, as Spike suggested, is just trying to earn brownie points by touching on one of the favorite hate points of the rest of the site, in order to deflect away from the fact that the only reason he joined this site in the first place was because his presence pisses Dominus Nox off.
He's sort of like a reverse blakkie.
I think he just wants to be loved.
His methods are often counter-productive, though.

If that's the case, I'd recommend posting to threads like the one for gaming advice you wish you'd had when you were growing up, or the gothic horror thread, or y'know most any thread that deals with roleplaying.
'cause as the responses here prove, ragging on rpg.net has fallen out of favor lately.
I think most folks got it out of their system already, and the rest are just sick of seeing it.

Seanchai's 2nd paragraph has it mostly correct.
Maybe I was just in a bad mood when I started the thread. (?)
Tho, the 1st paragraph husely amusing in concept - because I just watched
V for Vedetta this past weekend with players from my usual gaming group.

Except those of us who can't go there because we're bannzorzed ;)
Still, you're right, we don't have to have one every day. Thing is, when people are pissed off, they need to vent. You can't tell the rpg.net mods you're pissed off with them, you get on their shit list then. So people vent in other forums. therpgsite doesn't seem to get whole venting threads at rpg.net, but it sure gets a lot of venting posts and snarky comments. There's a little exchange going on, for better or worse.
Actually I hope the purple toilet doesn't ban him, it would just give him more time to toady around here.....
Cue post of Koltar saying he didn't read what Nox said about it, but inferred it from my response.
And... scene!
Quote from: Garry GI just end up wondering whose arse he's licking.
What he's done here and in this thread doesn't seem any different than what I've done here: talk smack about TBP. Shrug. Does he want to be part of the gang? Of course! Who doesn't?

That would be pretty difficult - since you didn't quote him.

Whatever's available.
Whoa! Do we need to whack up on Koltar? I'm just sayin', leave that dead purple horse alone, is all.
I don't see the suck up, really.
Dude strikes me as really earnest* in a way that internet conversation is usually not. Like he types what comes into his head, instead of sitting back and mulling a thought over and fitting it into one's online persona. Which is, naturally, better than just pumping the same sewage out at us time after time, as various posters are wont to do.
Rock on your ridgy-headed self, man.
* You ever come up with the phrase you wish you'd used right after you posted? Because as I left this forum it came to me. 'Earnest but fumbling, like a high school sophomore working a bra clip in the dark".
Earnest seems about right. Also...I'm in pre pre production phase of a Star Trek campaign (something based on the Marquee (sp)) and it's always good to have someone who knows a lot about the Trek universe posting around here.

Spelling veers between "Marquis" and "Maquis". The second is favored by Wiki, and was in fact a French resistance group.
I quite dig on the DS9/Dominion War arc myself, so if I can help at all with that I will.

Thanks. I have a feeling I'm gonna need all the help I can get. When I've finished with the
Burning Honour gig and my
OtE campaign is back in groove, I'll probably post a rough outline and see where it goes from there. I've never run a
ST campaign.

'Tis indeed the latter.

Named after a shrub, IIRC, that the rebels would use to hide in. Or something.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maquis_%28biota%29
QuoteMaquis (French) or macchia (Italian; plural macchie) is a shrubland biome in Mediterranean countries, typically consisting of densely-growing evergreen shrubs such as sage, juniper and myrtle. It is similar to heath in many aspects, but with taller shrubs, typically 2-4 m high as opposed to 0.2-1 m for heath. A similar habitat type in North America is known as chaparral, though the species of shrub involved are different.
The Maquis spelling is the correct one in regards to the fictional DS9 group.
Writers who worked for the show say they were referencing the historical group when they came up with that name.
We could start a Maquis role-playing thread up in the normal RPG section.

I treat off topic as being essentially the bitch about rpg.net forum, since I started thinking of it that way it makes much more sense to me.
I also see it to an extent as Tangency without pictures.

The next time anybody posts a kitten picture, I will sell all my earthly possessions, leave my family, and devote the rest of my life to hunting the perpetrator down and killing them by stuffing live kittens down their throat.
Quote from: ZalmoxisIf we all cared about what they do we'd GO THERE.
People would, but 90% of this forum was banned from there
for being dicks because the cruel mods had it out for them. And yet, like a spurned lover folks constantly "read their ex-girlfriend's livejournal", following slavishly to the latest antics at the Big Purple.

I saw the same. Reading his initial posts here (not 'getting'
any jokes (espeically ones using irony), posting ridiculously contrived or "dead horse" stuff, etc) gave me the distinct impression that he doesn't have an agenda really, but rather that
it was his first week on the internet.
Welcome to the Internet, Koltar! I greet you!

Only problem with that theory is, well, it isn't. It's an act. He knows full well exactly what he's doing, it's as transparent as the pane of glass in my window frame.

What if it's a cat picture? Does my avatar count?

I must make it my personal mission to summarize as many of my thoughts as possible with cat pictures, then.
I adore over-reaction.

You're skating close to the edge, but legislation shouldn't be retroactive in my view.
If I edit ictures into older posts can I get off on a technicality?

Bring it.
Awww. Those yours, Dr. R!?
Aaah keeeyoooot keeetoom!
Anyone for pie, cookies and vibes?
(Quick, shoot me now, for the love of Mike!!!!)
Man, I just happen to like cats. You keep associating me with Tangency and there will be bloodshed.

Damnit. I used to have a picture of a guy holding a kitten in his mouth, so that only the head was visible. Now I can't find it anywhere...

But that was gold.
