Quote from: rpg.netA sudden power surge/outage at our ISP today knocked down all of our machines. The RPGnet host survived this, but the main forums table was damaged in the process. The 'CHECK' of it is taking quite a long time because of its size. We're hoping it'll be back up sometime tonight, but for this particular MySQL command there's no way to check progress.
What's that? The CHECK process is choking on Tangency, you say?
Just figured I'd get to be news guy. Carry on about your day.
We go LIVE to fonkaygarry.

Didn't the size of Tangency cause a crash awhile back? Why don't they just wipe it and start fresh rather than rebuild a broken database?

Somebody brought up the idea of deleting all the old backlog of posts, threads that have been dead for many months or even years. Of course he got hollered down as those old posts "were important" and "could be used in the future" etc etc. All this on a site with no good working search function and a hatred of thread necromancy with favor over creating a whole new thread.
Yeah those old tang threads are important... as important as the toe nails I clipped off five months ago.
Personally if they need to cut space they can cut off half of Tangs posts, half of the for sale section, half of the promo section, over half of the gathering section and all the locked threads. Nobody would really notice probably, except the tang people who pay attention to the number of threads listed of the forums index.
Ah well. It's their problem not mine. Got plenty of other places to post.

Not
specifically.
The site crashed because SQL hit the bump-stops due to the sheer size of the board. As most of the site is Tangency posts, many people drew the logical conclusion.
But we're told it wasnt at all due to Tangency, oh no sir...

Sorry I didn't catch that toss - I was at a convention all weekend and the hotel's internet connection wasn't working.

The Purple Palace will delete the gaming sections before they even consider doing anything to Tangency.

You got to be on your TOES if you wanna make it at RPGsite.Or so I have been told by people who claim to have made it at RPGsite...
In the interests of fostering your brilliant satire, there's a "Is GNS elitist" thread over there that turned into "...or is it just bullshit", and the Swine are taking a beating. I'd like to think I'm holding my own, in fact.
That is all. I've slept like four hours this weekend so I'm damn loopy.

At which point I would seriously consider deleting Tangency with a sledgehammer.

There's the rub. Without a fully functional "Search" feature, logging threads that are years old
makes no sense at all.

Your TBP handle would be...?

Is this because Tangency has the most paid members?
I saw if Tangency is so important, make people have to pay to use it. They would.

I would be Whatchamacarcass. I'm not right in the thick of it, but I think I pushed things in the right way for a while by getting the "It's just
wrong" in there early.

Exactly...a la SomethingAwful, as i've mentioned before.
It. just. makes. sense.

You'll always be Christmas Ape to me.

I keep meaning to get these two unified, actually. Swap the tBP account over so it's clear to all.
