Title: Talk about sensitive!
Post by: Anthrobot on February 04, 2007, 10:39:28 AM
:D I've recently run afoul of the overly sensitive moderator Nina, on RPG. net. She took offence at some chat with a fellow member of my roleplaying group about a catpiss man cleaning up his hygiene due to some mockery by group members.I didn't know that lawncrapping individuals were so protected on the site. Perhaps they want roleplaying to be associated with people who have serious hygiene problems?
Anyway I consider it a badge of honour to have elicited a warning from an RPG.net moderator, even if it was so easy, due to their sensitive natures.:D

Dogg, there are at least five too many Big Purple threads on this page as it is.  It's poorly run; we understand this.

Let it die.

Catpissman, catpissman, doing whatever cat piss can...
Silly RPG.net. I only use it for informal studies, photoshop threads and creepy gamers.

I'm jot disagreeing with you just to do it, I'm just asking if things are really like that now. I mena, do they now keep people from busting on "catpissman"?

Shit, last time I had a sockpuppet there it was open season on "Catpissmen" and anyone who criticised the constant attacks on them.

NOW they bost on people for busting on "catpissmen"? Damn, I may need to sockpuppet over there again and check it out.

I've asked the aforementioned moderator to "shut he fuck up" or ban me.She mistakes the robust banter of our gaming group for offensiveness, such is her 'holier than thou' attitude. She also seems to be squirming in avoidance of accepting responsibility for her actions. With luck she may regain enough confidence to tell me to go fuck myself and ban me! Either way I am having an entertaining time discovering the psychological profiles of the pantywaist moderatorship there. :D
By the way Fonkaygarry,I don't take orders from you.I'll post whatever I like here. You seem to be guilty of purpleheadedness by wanting me to desist. What do you have to gain from stifling criticism of rpg.net? Or are you one of the moderators on that site?

What do you do if there is a member of your gaming gruop that persistently refuses to wash?
Do we have a right to shame such a person if they are stinking out the room?
How would you deal with the situation? Would you be tactful or blunt?
We had a cat piss man in our group who sneered at our suggestion that he should take a bath some time soon.
We put some money together and bought him some shower gel razors soap and shampoo and told him "Use these or find another gaming group".
The CPM soon mended his ways and made sure that he was clean when he came out to our group. We were glad that we did not have to suffer his body odour on a regular basis and that we could concentrate on gaming and not gagging.:)

Once, I had to work with a catpissman.

Well not exactly, he was clean shaven, generally tidy and didnt have huge pools of sweat under his arms, but he must have had some medical problem because his BO could make you gag from 50 feet.
No kidding either - I was three desks away and tried not to breathe deeply. The secretaries on the other side of the office commented about the smell.
(Funny thing was this guy was ex-Navy. A submariner. The mind boggles.)

Catpissman side story (not a gamer, just a catpissman)

Back in my Mickey Dees days, there was this one fat guy who apparrently never bathed.  He never washed his uniform either.  Managers would always put him on grill, because that was the only place to hide someone so nasty.

His odor was really bad.  I would constantly try to come up with reasons for him to leave the grill area.  I'd tell him to take out trash, sweep up, sort boxes... anything to get his stinky ass away.  I asked several times why he wasn't fired, and the answer was "he shows up to work."  But the fortunate part was that he was a slack-ass, and he'd constantly drift back to the break room to avoid work.

Anyway, it gets worse, because one day it rained when he came in.  Rather than wear a raincoat or change into his uniform at work, he had simply gotten drenched in his uniform.  What to do?  I'll tell you what he did: he stripped down to his soiled undies and threw his uniform in the dryer.

Now, I had been washing some towels at the time.  I was doing some cleaning, so I went to the back to get some more clean towels out of the dryer.  The first shock was seeing this guy sitting in the break room mostly nude except for his dark brown underwear.  The second shock was the overwhelming stench.  The third shock was opening up the dryer and receiving a baked in version of that stench.

The first thing I did was get the industrial strength glove we used to protect our hands while cleaning the grill.  The second thing I did was throw all the towels which had been in the dryer away, because I certainly wasn't going to clean anything with them.  The third thing I did was to go find the manager and tell her the guy was sitting in the back basically naked.  She declined to go back and fire him.  After that, I cleaned the grill glove with the strongest cleaner we had, and I still thought it reeked of the stench later that night.

The next day, the dryer was declared broken.  It was one of the few times I ever saw any equipment at the store replaced.

Eventually the guy quit.  Several people told me that the guy had been saying something for the past several days before about some kind of welfare or disability check he'd be getting.

At least the homeless and mentally ill would have an excuse for being unwashed and unkempt. The lawncrapper in our gaming club was neither of the above. We gave our smellboy some jocular advice about getting a wash and gave him the benefit of a little time to clean up his act.But still he didn't think that we would name and shame him.
We run games at a club and can't "stop inviting" the lawncrapper element. But we can mock them into becoming more hygienic when they turn up.

This will save you the suffering to your sense of smell but it does not tacle the problem.
When you keep making excuses not to be at certain games other people might think you don't like them.
Maybe it would be better and more honest to tell the cat piss man about his smelliness?

"Is so-and-so going to be there? Then I can't make it." Doesn't sound like an excuse, it sounds like "I won't be there if he's there." It may be better to confront the stinker, but it really depends on the stinker.

My wife used to work with a guy that seemingly obviously never bathed, but when confronted he said he does bathe twice a day but glandular problems made it ineffectual. It may have been true or may not have been, but it definitely deflected the issue so she couldn't honestly complain any more, at least not on that front. She eventually bought him a lot of deoderant and made him put it on several times a day, but it didn't really help.

To be honest I took the easy way out and avoided the CPM for a while. But it didn't help the situation.I think direct action against the smelly bloke was the only way to make him change his antisocial habit.

In my experience of lawncrappers/CPMs, I've found many of them that can give a plausible excuse for their laziness in hygiene. However a couple of minutes of considering the likelihood of their excuse usually shows it to be total shite.
Excuse:"I've got glandular problems!"
Answer:"Then get to a doctor and get some hormone treatment or bathe in carbolic acid!"
Excuse:"I'm allergic to soap!"
Answer:"They sell hypoallergenic soap in supermarkets nowadays, you Luddite!"
Excuse:"I smell because I sleep with my mother's rotting corpse!"
Answer:"I'll just phone the psychiatric doctor and the police...."
Not letting them get away with this behaviour is the only real option, in my opinion, and better for them in the long run.

If they've reached adulthood and still stink, there's nothing anyone can do for them. I mean, teenagers will be stinky, that's their nature, but once they hit about 20 they should have got their shit together. If not by then, well fuck, it might never happen - I won't be waiting around.

I don't offer them a spray, I just stop gaming with them. "Do I look like a motherfuckin' social worker to you?"

I wouldn't offer 'em a spray.I'd mock them and tell them to get a wash.If they don't want to wash then I don't want to sit in the same room as them. What pisses me off though, is the GNS spouting member of our club who actually took offence at the few of us who complained to the CPM about his stench.

That's odd, actually.

Gamers themselves were always the one thing you could count on being able attack viciously on RPGnet with reckless abandon, and the mods would get pissed at YOU if you took issue with it.

You couldn't say a whole lot that could even be moderately construed as an attack against a lot of groups, but you could run about expressing your basic hatred of gamers, call them all losers, unwashed, etc., and get off just fine.

I always found it ridiculous that the one thing on a gaming site you were alllowed to attack with such bigor was gamers.

Apart from the fact that your later posts on another thread show that you haven't been reading these posts properly, you have a thing about the sexual life of gamers that borders on the sad, bitter and lonely end of opinion.
Have you never engaged in banter with other males about women? Or do you live with your mother in her basement?

Do "chicks" dig this kind of talk also?

Anthrobot  I think you worry about JimBobOz a little too much maybe. Kind of like a person that I have on ignore worries WAY too much about my post count on other forums.

Most of those phrases he used were in context appropriate for the conversations that he posted in . As an Aussie once erxplained to me, they cuss and swear a lot more in friendly conversation than the average American does.
