This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Star Wars, no one is watching.

I am so thankful that I just went ahead and bought the DVDs from overseas.

The DVDs of what?

I too am curious. I know the references, but I don't get the connection.

There was a short anime called Macross: Flashback 2012 where an older Minmei performs for the launch of the Megaroad-01 (a second generation exploration and colony ship based on the Macross) which is commanded by Misa and escorted by Hikaru. It might be on YouTube, I'm not sure.

Ok, but how does that make it a Star Wars sequel? Or is it a joke I'm not getting?

Macross is an entirely different science fiction franchise. The only connection to Star Wars is that Disney has acquired the rights to broadcast both on Disney+. However, Disney+ apparently only has the rights to broadcast the Macross franchise all over the world EXCEPT in the USA because I have only encountered report after report that says that it isn't available in the USA. I cannot confirm those reports because I got rid of Disney+. If true, then it probably has to do with the contract signed with Harmony Gold.

I'm not sure what Spooky is talking about because he has impressed me as someone whose case of cranial rectitus is terminal.

John Boyega spews racist crap over how Star Wars is racist.

Tell a decent story, play a decent character, and I don't care. Stop whinging about how you signed on to star in the death of the franchise.

Shoji Kawamori ruined Macross in 1994 just like George Lucas ruined Star Wars in 1997.

They got it in their heads they were Kurosawa and Kubrick level geniuses because everyone around them said they were but given singular free reign they fucked up and they were never masters, they were part of collaborations that made greatness.

I feel some sympathy for how his character was screwed over in the sequels, but this is like you said - whining. I dunno, does he have a book coming out or something and this is how he gets attention?

Boyega is an idiot. Yes, his character was screwed over by the writers of the subsequent films. Arguably Finn was a far more interesting character than Rey.

But his very success in getting that role debunks his whole argument about how incredibly "racist" Star Wars is.

I think they just didn't know what to do with Finn.  I don't think racism had much, if anything, to do with it.  Every negative outcome for a black person isn't caused by racism.  I don't think Johnson wrote Finn that way in TLJ out of racism.  I think he's just a hack.

Meanwhile, The Mandalorian had an ex-Imperial guest character and they made some of my favorite episodes around him.

Exactly. Bogeya is just fishing for reactions.

I think there's credence in his character's treatment being fallout in the feud between the directors. Nothing to do with racism, just standard duelling creative egos.

Quote from: HappyDaze on February 16, 2025, 02:03:32 AMIf Skeleton Crew had focused on Jude Law's character and not the kids, it would have held my interest. As it was, there were a few fun scenes streched across several hours.

I thought it was a solid, decently entertaining show even though I am not the target audience.  I thought it certainly was not bad enough to explain how hard it tanked in isolation.  After a string of mediocre (Book of Boba Fett) to bad (The Acoltye) shows, I think people just don't care about Star Wars any more.  The audience has checked out.

I think its like the Marvel stuff. Oversaturation. Combined with the rampant woke ideology infesting so much of it. People get tired.

Also especially with the Marvel movies. The more they change and fuck up. The more fans they drive away and they are NOT getting new ones fast enough to cover that. Same for the SW and ST lines.

My tinfoil hat theory is that one of the producers told Boyega that the minimizing of his Finn was due to a "racist backlash from toxic fans", just to avoid telling him the truth.

I wouldn't even blame Boyega for believing such nonsense as all these actors live in a carefully constructed bubble.
