This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Superheroes calling each other by their secret ID names.

I don't keep up with comics, but I've seen quite a few panels of especially Batman and Superman calling each other "Bruce" and "Clark".
Did they go public or are they in the habit of using their secret identity names when out in public doing superhero shit?

I have only seen them do it when no one else or at least no one that doesn't also know the identities is around. It's still poor opsec, but in a world where someone may have the sensory capabilities of Superman, opsec becomes nearly hopeless for regular people.

To be fair for Superman; thanks to villain shenanigans only people who had psi-shielding up at a specific time can even think about Superman having a secret identity. If forcibly confronted with Superman's dual identity most people will now stroke out and die.

The villain wanted to deny Superman the ability to fully connect with humanity. He must lie to the people that he is a godlike being completely above them or else condemn them to death.

Not saying it's a good story point, but it's what they came up with to reset the status quo after some "genius" decided Superman should just reveal his identity to the world like it was some CW show.

In comics it is rare.

In movies it seems to happen nearly 100% of the time. And god forbid they have a mask or helmet because that just gotta go!

Fuck me, so glad I stopped buying anything mainstream. Current year DC/Marvel I wouldn't even pirate.

Here is why this forum tends to be so stupid. Many people here think Joe Biden is "The Left", when he is actually Far Right and every US republican is just an idiot.

I stopped buying DC round the end of Death/Rebirth of Superman and Marvel round the end of 2000 if not earlier as everything was going downhill. Same for Image.

Bout the only thing late 90s from DC I liked was the Tangents and Fusion series. Tangents took all the DC names and gave them totally new characters. The Flash was a girl with light based powers. The Joker was a possible mutant crime fighter. The JLA was a group of anti-alien killers. Super Man was a black human who through some accident had leaped ahead in evolution, gaining vast mental powers. And so on. It was fun and a relief from the incessant grimdark infesting nearly every comic.

Fusion was a collab with Marvel where they merged two characters into one in a new setting akin to Tangents idea. Didn't follow that much as it was more grimdark and disjointed.

That was my break point as well. Superman died a bunch of times. It's just comics. But the whole "collector's edition" angle is what turned me off. Gimmicks like the fold out foil hologram covers flooding the market and ironically devaluing the comics with the numbers they printed.

The entertainment industry found a way to beat piracy. No, it wasn't by making a higher quality product, nor was it making it easier to access said product.

Nope, their strategy was just to make shit that isn't worth stealing.
