This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Star Wars, no one is watching.

The Disney took the themes away from Samurai-Western concepts of honor, duty, family, and justice... and it became generic woke sci-fi fantasy with tolerance, forced multiculturalism, teh ghey, and moral relativism.

To me, Star Wars worked best as a Samurai-Western concept with the thin veneer of laser swords and blasters. Once you take steps away from that, it doesn't work so well.

IMO, modern storytellers are too wrapped up in their own sh-t. They don't understand things like story structure, the hero's journey, the classics like the Iliad or even Kurosawa's movies. That's the fundamental problem to me. Say what you want about Mel Gibson, but that sonofabitch knows story structure. And most other modern storytellers do not understand that at all.

I partly agree, but I think Rogue One and The Mandalorian are the closest to pure Samurai-Western of the Star Wars properties, besides the original trilogy.

I definitely don't think the prequel trilogy or Clone Wars are anywhere close to Samurai-Western or honor, duty, family, and justice.

Andor was actually very good - as a show in general and not just genre material. Unfortunately, it came out when all the other shit like Obi Wan and worse The Acoylte was fouling the pool.

And when I think about the works from this century, the ones you mention are the only ones I really like. I think you hit the nail on the head.

But I guess I'm in the minority in that I actually enjoyed Solo. I'd rather watch it than the Prequels, although that's not saying much. I will only watch the Prequels as that spliced together mess of all three movies into one that I found years ago on the internet.

The notion of an exclusionary and hostile RPG community is a fever dream of zealots who view all social dynamics through a narrow keyhole of structural oppression.

The only Star Wars sequel I'll watch is about the Megaroad-1's journey to discover the origins of the Supervision Army.

I am so thankful that I just went ahead and bought the DVDs from overseas.

I too am curious. I know the references, but I don't get the connection.

The DVDs of what?

Macross Zero
Macross the Movie
Macross Frontier
Macross Delta

So far, Macross Frontier has been the best - second only to Macross Plus.

Go on eBay, you can order the DVDs from Singapore and Thailand subtitle in English for about $10-$20 with shipping. Make sure that they are Region Free. You may have to wait a month or two, but it pays off. I've gotten a lot of my anime this way.

There was a short anime called Macross: Flashback 2012 where an older Minmei performs for the launch of the Megaroad-01 (a second generation exploration and colony ship based on the Macross) which is commanded by Misa and escorted by Hikaru. It might be on YouTube, I'm not sure.

Ah, no. Those shows don't cover the Megaroad-1's story, only FB2012 covers its launch. I also in no way consider the four shows you listed as canon. They are Kawamori verse shows for women and paedophiles.

I also consider the shows you mentioned to be modern anime mainly for paedophiles and directed by the Lucas of Macross, Shoji Hackamori. They are not perfect war stories like the '82 series, '84 movie and Macross II.

I have had for many years the "original trilogy" of Macross on Laserdisc, SDFM, DYRL? FB2012 and MII. No dirty fucking macroblocked bootleg DVDs of Macross will ever contaminate the circuits of my Sony Wega wide CRT.

For subs I run Substation Alpha through a genlock.

This is such a pants on head crazy response I'm not even sure how to react. Nice to know that you are fucked in the head, though.
