This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

One Horse Town

Seems a bit X-Files to me, which although i liked the one-off episodes, the overarching story sucked balls for me.

Are there any shows that are simply one-off episodes anymore?

I like Tru Calling until they introduced the anti-Tru guy (canned because of it, i see). I used to like Supernatural when it was monster of the week.

Is Fringe different or does it have 'metaplot'?

I don't watch them but maybe some of the police procedurals are self-contained. CSI, Law & Order...but most anything SF&F is a geek opera these days, and I bet we can think of some reasons why.

It DOES have a "Metaplot".

However there are plenty of standalone episodes.

At work I've been watching the first season on DVD on the store's TV. We can play Sci-Fi/Fantasy related stuff at work as long as there's no cusswords or gore.

During the first year of the show I missed some episodes because I was either watching "Eli Stone" or was scheduled to work those nights.

The show is pretty good, on average.  The crazy scientist guy - Dr. Walter Bishop is fun to listen to.
