Red Letter Media predicts awful time travel story in Rise of Skywalker.

I will see Rise of Skywanker in 3 months when it shows up at my local El Cheapo 2nd run theater. It's $2 on Tuesdays and the popcorn is hot and delicious. I want to see the special effects, monsters and tech bits and see if any of it is salvageable for RPGing. But its been clear since The Fart Awakens that there's no story or characters worth a damn in this trilogy.

I agree with Spike that the key issue is Hollywood has a bizarre disrespect for writers, even though every great movie is based on its writing. It's a very weird disconnect in this town.

100% agreed, but humans are a really stupid species.

Not in the version being shown in China!

I can't wait for the Pitch Meeting satire. (No spoilers)

Producer guy: So you got a Star Wars finale for me?
Writer guy: Yes sir I do!
Producer guy: I bet it was hard to fix the problems from the last one.
Writer guy: Actually it was super easy, barely an inconvenience.
Producer guy: Really? How so?
Writer guy: The Emperor was behind it the whole time.
Producer guy: Wait, didn't he die?
Writer guy: Look, I'm gonna need you to get all off my back on this.
Producer guy: Ok, well let me get off of that thing!
Writer guy: Thanks!
Producer guy: I bet people are gonna be really surprised when he shows up.
Writer guy: Not at all. We're practically gonna tell them in the previews.
Producer guy: Well people do like it when the old characters show up.
Writer guy: Yeah yeah yeah. We're gonna have Lando in it, and he's gonna go... Wooo, and C3P0 says how much he will miss his friends.
Producer guy: Did he ever really become friends with the new cast, though? I mean he was barely in the previous film.
Writer guy: Kinda feels like you're on my back again.
Producer guy: Oh, sorry. Well, this sounds like it's going to be a hit.
Writer guy: Trust me, people are gonna love it.

"Rise of Skywalker' is one of the lowest-rated 'Star Wars' movies in history"

I can't say I'm surprised by the bad reviews. Historically, the last installment in a Star Wars trilogy has always been the weakest.

I did have an irrational hope that somehow they would manage to tie everything up and salvage the sequel trilogy, or at least leave it in a good place for fanfic.

I will probably see TROS in theaters at some point, but the initial reviews are not encouraging.

I promise you this is completely backward.  The writer had a story and the producer was like 'people really liked the Emperor, he should be in it' and the writer was like 'but he's dead'.  I'm sure the producer pointed out that Superhero movies are really popular now and dead superheroes come back to life all the time.
When I say objectively, I mean \'subjectively\'.  When I say literally, I mean \'figuratively\'.
And when I say that you are a horse\'s ass, I mean that the objective truth is that you are a literal horse\'s ass.

Yep. Which perfectly reflects how memorable the sequel trilogy has been.:o

Really? Most people consider RotS the strongest of the Prequels, in my experience. I admit, I'm among them.

As far as I'm concerned, my Star Wars universe incorporates most of Legends until after Survivor's Quest and then goes off in its own direction, although I'm not sure how yet. :)

I find it very believeable, considering JJ Abrams work up until this point.
The notion of an exclusionary and hostile RPG community is a fever dream of zealots who view all social dynamics through a narrow keyhole of structural oppression.

Writer guy: Yes, but after months of work, I...
Producer guy: Put the Emperor in it.
Writer guy: What?
Producer guy: Put the Emperor in it. People like dead characters coming back to life.
Writer guy: Well Ok then, I guess he's in it. Sort of ruins my story though.
Producer Guy: Ruining stories is tight!

For those of you who have seen the movie... is it safe to say that the time travel theory was wrong?

I like Phantom Menace the best out of all the prequels. Best lightsaber duel, a memorable, menacing villain in Darth Maul, Duel of the Fates, podracing and Qui-Gon. Yeah, it's uneven and has major faults, but all of the prequels do.

Edit: As for RotS, the only parts I really liked were the visual cues to Star Wars that they put in towards the end of the movie. The central storyline of Anakin's fall from grace just didn't work for me in any way.

I didn't plan to see this in the theater. Then my wife bought us tickets to see it for my birthday. We went and saw it. She apologized afterwards.

And that's why 8 pound 6 ounce Baby Jesus blessed us all with post-Star Wars birthday apology sex.

He saves, even against JJ Abrams.

Quote from: Antiquation!;1116852Um, no Ratman_tf. If you were a true fan you would have read the comics, so your ignorance here is on full display. He never died. Palpatine has been clearly depicted as riding a fragment of the exploding Death Star down through the atmo like a surfboard.

I think you are mixing that up with Darkstar and Kaleidoscope. So your ignorance here is on full display!

I haven't been following the Disney Star Wars at all except for catching Rogue One on netflix (and liked it fine. Although "everybody dies" if a surprisingly downbeat ending for a Star Wars movie.)

But with this one...wow. It must truly suck if woke culture wars outlets like Slate are willing to admit it's bad (as opposed to the usual whining about "toxic" fans).
