Title: Night Vale Radio
Post by: The Traveller on December 30, 2013, 04:13:07 AM
I don't know if anyone's ever heard of this but having just stumbled across it, I'm very impressed. It's a podcast of a smalltown radio station done in the vein of The Twilight Zone or similar productions, verbal creepypasta, overenunciated by our narrator Cecil. For a creepy urban horror game or even something Lovecraftian, this makes for great inspiration.

Ah I miss radio dramas. Some of the statuses from the facebook page:

Quote from: Night Vale RadioIt's midnight. Do you know what your child is?

Despite the warning songs taught to us since childhood, we have yet to stop the old man from invading our homes this same night each year.

These are strange carolers. Silent, hundreds crawling across your ceiling, 8 legs each, toxic bites. Not like any carolers I've ever seen.

Take a picture. It'll last longer. Keep taking pictures, hoping to stretch time. Take pictures to avoid the harrowing brevity of existence.

On Christmas morning, check under the tree for your gift. Specifically, the dead oak in the abandoned lot. Dig. Dig until you hear a cry.

Ask your doctor why there are no windows, no doors. Ask your doctor why you cannot see, hear her. Ask your doctor where the nurse is.
Good stuff, I love these little gems one stumbles across from time to time. Apparently they sometimes do the podcasts in front of a live audience.

Welcome to Night Vale happens to be one of the rare podcasts I listen to, ever since noticing a thread about the series over at RPGnet's Other Media. It's a weird, weird town, and yes, excellent fodder for scenarios in the style of Twin Peaks and such.

(Speaking of old-fashioned radio drama, ever heard of Quiet, Please (http://www.quietplease.org/)?)

Is there a big fat zip file I can download somewhere, I'd like to listen to it while jogging - may as well have a reason for giggling fiendishly, if anyone asks.

I hadn't no, most of the proper radio dramas I've listened to were in the Philippines, the farmers used to hang a radio from old carabao's horn when we were planting. I caught a couple of episodes, pretty interesting stuff. The crackle of static or the record maybe really lends it that postwar ambience.

I download the mp3s from here (http://nightvale.libsyn.com/), but there doesn't seem to be an option for getting the archives in one go.

Thanks! There's a real howler of a storm outside so I've just moved them to the player. Fingers crossed for a blackout! :D
