This is just a note to let everyone know that Night of the Comet is finally available on DVD. So, if anyone else loves this cheesy little movie as much as I do, and has despaired because it has been out of print for so long, then despair no longer.
The DVD is really bare bones. The transfer is just acceptable. There are no special features whatsoever. It's just the movie, English/Spanish audio/subtitles, and chapter selections. On the brighter side, it's only about $10.
This movie is firmly related to gaming for me. Ever since I first saw it on HBO at a friend's house in the mid eighties, I'd run little mini-games in the same style. I had a homebrew game system which was similar to BESM1 without the attributes, and I'd have my players make up themselves as characters (idealized versions of themselves, of course). Then I'd run adventures full of empty cities and homicidal zombies and mutant creatures. Good times.
Cool!!
When was a teenager - had the biggest crush on Catherine Mary Stewart.
Loved it when the little sister character says :
"Daddy would've gotten us Uzis."
- E.W.C.
"That's the trouble with these thing. Daddy would have gotten us Uzis."
"The car didn't know the difference."
and,
"You're Crazy!"
"I'm not crazy, I just don't give a fuck."
I love this movie.
(p. s. for the ulitimate Robert Beltran(Chakotay)/Mary Woronov double feature you do "Eating Raoul" followed by "Night of the Comet" . Good times.:D )
Okay - you were more accurate.
I need to buy the DVD - definitely.
That setting might be an interesting one for a roleplaying game ...a kind of "Post-Apocalypse Lite!"
- E.W.C.
"Finally"? You mean it wasn't before?
This movie 'effin' rocked. I LOVED it when I was a formative pupae in the 80's. I always liked the horse-faced scientist-chick (also starring in "Rock 'n Roll High School", for all you hep cats) and was sad when she offed herself...
Yeah. Nothing like a bunch of vindictive adult scientist-types trying to save themselves by draining the blood from nubile teen sylphs.
Mm......
Damn, I miss the 80's.
Oo! Oo! while we're on the subject, anyone but me remember "Miracle Mile"? That was a DAMN fine movie.

I cannot look at the alien bounty hunter from X-Files without seeing him in a spandex unitard.
I always wondered if this was the inspiration for Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Anyway, cool, fun movie.
