Last October, I purchased a monitor from Office Depot with a hefty rebate offer (the rebate was from a third party distributor, not Office Depot). I waited and waited, and no rebate ever came.
Apparently I wasn't the only one who didn't get their rebate. Yesterday, I get a letter from Office Depot saying that because this distributor hadn't delivered on their rebate promise, Office Depot would step in and take care of it themselves. I received a check from Office Depot for the total amount of the rebate, plus a $5 gift card and a coupon for $10 off my next purchase of $50.
They say word of mouth is the best form of advertising, so I wanted to give Office Depot credit and let everyone know they took care of me.

That is a good thing. Most (Both office stores like Staples, Office Depot, as well as individual companies) don't do anything in hopes you will forget about it. I have had that happen a few times. When I complained half the time I finally got it and the other half they ignored it and did nothing.
