This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Kinda embarassing for us...

Looking at reach here,
rpg.net forums is in red, sjgames forums in that icky swamp colour, and us down in blue.

Not looking good for rpg.net, they seem to be on a slide down...

What's interesting is when you lok at rpg.net and sjgames together over five years,

you get this big rise through 2005-6, from then on a decline.

Also notice,

Where people go on Rpg.net:

    * forum.rpg.net - 56%
    * index.rpg.net - 30%
    * rpg.net - 12%
    * shop.rpg.net - 1%
    * wiki.rpg.net - 1%

Now you know why they have to ask for donations, people aren't buying from their shops much.

Compare with sjgames.com,

Where people go on Sjgames.com:

    * sjgames.com - 82%
    * forums.sjgames.com - 10%
    * e23.sjgames.com - 6%
    * ultracorps.sjgames.com - 1%
    * other websites - 1%

So apparently you don't have to ask for donations if your selling part is even half as popular as your chatty part!

Not sure what it all tells us, but it's interesting anyway.

How is any of this in any way embarrassing for us?

Over the last three months theRPGsite's reach has gone up a STUNNING 60%, and we've moved up an unbelievable 385000 rankings!

At the same time, RPGnet has gone DOWN 11% and dropped 1200 rankings.

 You realize that actually backs up some of the stuff that SJG staffers have been saying the past few months?

Like what?  Can you linky?  I don't generally go to SJGames' forums that often.

It's funny how UNpopular e23 seems to be compared to their book merchant section (even allowing that not everyone visiting "sjgames.com" goes there to buy). Even I, an avowed pdf hata, always visit e23 when I visit SJG.

QuoteTraffic Rank for therpgsite.com:  377,26306

Does this mean we're on that position compared to other forums, or total websites?

J Arcane

RPGnet is one of the first websites to come up on a Google search, and has a PageRank of 6.

This site doesn't even have a page rank, nor does it show up on a search for either "rpg", "roleplaying games", "role playing games", or "RPG forums" anywhere in the first ten paged or so.  I have to specifically look for the name to even find it.
Bedroom Wall Press - Games that make you feel like a kid again.

Arcana Rising - An Urban Fantasy Roleplaying Game, powered by Hulks and Horrors.
Hulks and Horrors - A Sci-Fi Roleplaying game of Exploration and Dungeon Adventure
Heaven\'s Shadow - A Roleplaying Game of Faith and Assassination

RPGPundit

And yet we've gone up 60% in the last three months, and we've made a gain of 385000 ranks.

I'd say we don't have very much to worry about, over time we'll be getting more and more popular, regardless of what certain people who would like to see this site gone might wish.

1) No idea what Ed's talking about. We at Steve Jackson Games don't put a lot of stock in where J.Random Search Engine ranks us, and I don't recall any conversations in the past 18 months, internally or publically, on the topic.

2) Before anyone draws too many conclusions from Alexa's information, consider this:

(from http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?url=sjgames.com)

Sjgames.com users come from these countries:
China47.3%
United States18.1%
United Kingdom4.8%
Belgium2.9%
Canada2.9%

and this:

(from http://www.alexa.com/site/help/traffic_learn_more)

yeah something is screwed up.

I checked the google page rank for this site a few months ago and it was 5(IIRC), now it does not even register.

The metatags were hosed.  They should be fixed.  And I've now submitted the site to Google, Yahoo, and a dozen less famous other engines.
