This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

There's enough plot in the adult sections (Beverly's husband, the Ben/Bill/Bev love triangle, Bill's wife) and as I mentioned earlier some of the most grotesque sequences take place in the adult sections so I don't think it will be too much of an issue.

True enough. I guess rather than the childhood half, where the book has a lot more plot than a movie can really use, the adult half has just the right amount.

I never read the book but I really liked the It Miniseries with Tim Curry. I still haven't seen the new one. The original may be nostalgia. I was working in a video store in the early 90s and watched it while working my way through the horror section. It was one of the movies that stood out to me after getting to the end of the shelf.

I found the TV show pretty bad except for Curry of course. It just wasn't able to do the material justice in a mainstream TV format in my opinion.

I have a soft spot for it... But it's more of a nostalgia trip for me.

Tim Curry was amazing! And one scary bastard... I thought the kids were pretty good and it did a good job of showing their relationships. John Boy Walton wasn't a great choice for the lead character though.

The real weakness of the miniseries, for me, was the end... but the book's ending is a hard thing to capture on film.
As it is, the series beats the new movie for addressing certain elements, albeit with clunkier effects and acting.
Curry's clown is, again, a subtler portrayal than the cartoonish lunging of the new one.
Richard Thomas didn't bother me at all in the series, neither did John Ritter... and I've always had a soft-spot for Annette O'Toole.
