This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Hunger is good for your mental health

One of the reasons I scratch my head at game groups who gorge themselves during game sessions. I find satiation makes not only my body, but my mind sluggish.

Quote from: droog;217416It seems that a hormone named ghrelin is produced in the stomach when you are hungry. It further seems that ghrelin may have an anti-depressant, anti-anxiety effect.

There seems to be an awful lot of uncertainty in the articles you linked to. I'm not sure that I'd trust much of this research without further testing.

So atheists have been abused, treated badly by clergy or they\'re stupid.They\'re just being trendy because they can\'t understand The God Delusion because they don\'t have the education, plus they\'re just pretending to be atheists anyway. Pundit you\'re the one with a problem, terminal stupidity.

Actually, that sluggishness may be due to pressure on the Vagus Nerve in the stomach, which slows the heartrate significantly... or so I understand.
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

I have no doubts that all the other deleterious effects of hunger will rather outweigh any positive ones.

While I've put on something of a gut over the last few months, I'm still only around 135, and I can assure you, I've spent a good enough amount of time being poor and hungry to have first hand knowledge of what it can do to the system.

Anorexia is for the rich.

Who says it's a positive effect?  It's an adaptive mechanism for dealing with a life-threatening situation.
