This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I can't say that I was sure Bush would win but I did realize that Kerry was making a huge mistake making his whole introduction at the DNC Convention revolve around his Vietnam-era service.

Ah... he was never my candidate. I always thought my Democratic friends that voted for him were wrong to do so.

Yes, especially after his shenanigans, just after his service, came to light. His congressional testimony was insightful.

And the reality is that there was substance to the claims made by the Swift Boat Veterans about his service.  I read their book and all sorts of information from both sides and it became painfully clear to me was that almost nobody in the mainstream media was actually reading their claims or looking at their evidence but were looking for any and every reason to discredit them.  Their treatment of those veterans was appalling.  The contrast with forged memo incident with Dan Rather, where the mainstream media was looking for any evidence, no matter how far-fetched, that the memo wasn't forged, was stunning.

By the way, here is my quote from TBP's Tangency from September 2004 about Kerry:

"Kerry cost himself the election somewhere between the time he saluted and said that he was reporting for duty and the balloons started dropping on him and his 'band of brothers'. Kerry made a mistake of historic proportions when he decided that his key qualification for office was what he did in Vietnam 35 years ago."

The last few paragraphs here (ending in, "Preserving [Wright's] legacy is far more important than any candidacy," [Al Sharpton] told [Wright's daughter].) sound kinda ominous.

I'm really disappointed by white America.  Wright's comments don't shock me at all.  They're relatively common viewpoints for black preachers.  I continue to be amazed at how baffled white Americans are by black anger.

....and here I thought this thread was about Hilary's speech ... not about the anger of a minority within a minority.

The bad thing is that Obama and Hilary have picked at each pother so much that now neither one is going to be much of a viable candidate by mid-October.

I love it...Obamites on Huffington Post are now blaming the latest Rev Wright flap (which, I agree, should've been inconsequential, but the O-man made it what it is) on operatives of the Clinton or McCain campaigns..."They organized the press conferences to make Obama look bad!"

We do love our conspiracies in this country, don't we?

I think Obama may have a serious problem on his hands much sooner than I expected:

As much as I want to see Obama make history by becoming the first black man to be elected president, I don't want to see a warrior like Wright denigrated to prove to white voters that Obama is not a radical.

When Obama denounced Wright's angry words but refused to disown him, it signaled that he understood the sensitive tightrope he is being forced to walk.

His "outrage" over Wright's latest remarks signals something quite different. With the gap narrowing, Obama advisers are obviously scrambling for every white vote.

But really, what more should blacks have to sacrifice? Their dignity?
