Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: darKerry seemed aweful popular among my Democratic friends at the time. In fact among my Republican friends, Bush was no where near as popular. I remember people CHEERING when Kerry saluted. If you knew where I lived, you'd know that it was a big deal. I really thought that Bush was fucked.

I don't get it.

I know plenty of people who voted for him. I know people that were going to vote Nader but jumped ship to pitch in for the Democrats.

I got hurt at work this evening-I'm going to be fine the other guys luck wasn't what he thought it was, and I am shot full of Demerol. So expect my answer tomorrow.

It is a quote, moderately famous, from a NYC journalist in regards to a presidential election regarding why the 'unpopular candidate' won.

You pointed out cheers for Kerry and thinking Bush was fucked, yet Bush won... a fact that openly baffled you. In essence you embody the quote.

* note: I don't have the time to look up the exact person and the exact situation, so you hyper-anal internet cops can either do it for me or shut the hell up. I'm close enough for Gubemint work...

Quote from: John MorrowOf the three people left in the race (and feel free to include others no longer in the race if you want to comment on them), do you think:

McCain is a moderate?

I think some of his views are Moderate, and that he is more of a Moderate than say Darth Vader, or Ronald Reagan-but overall I think he sits to the right of what I consider Moderate.

QuoteObama is a moderate?

I don't know. As far as I can tell he has no real stances, or opinions. He's kicked out a few sound bites, but until I see some real history to deal with, or  Policies to standby. Obama has no real political history for me to look at, unlike McCain and Clinton. In someways that almost makes him appealing.

And before someone gets too upset, this is just my personal Opinion.

QuoteClinton is a moderate?

I think her political stance lies to the left of Moderate, as I see the term. She is certainly more Moderate than say Che Guevara, or Jimmy Carter-but I have found that her credibility has become a key issue to me. I just don't believe anything she says. I could care less if the next president is a woman, black, yellow, or even religious as long as they're qualified. To me she represents the ultimate in soulless bureaucracy-someone who would say or do anything to hang onto or get power.

Of course it does.  That's why "unnamed Democrat" and "unnamed Republican" often poll better than any of the named candidates.  People project what they want to see on a blank canvas.  That's exactly the game Obama is playing right now but I doubt his ability to keep it going until November.

Not just Wright but also Sharpton, which is one of the things I had in mind when I said that Obama might wind up making race relations worse.  His dilemma is, does he continue to dance around Wright and Sharpton or does he condemn them and distance himself from them.  I think he loses either way.

ADDED:  I haven't seen it yet but online reports make it sound like Obama decided to throw Wright under the bus and that he can, after all, disown the Reverend unlike his Grandma.  Now the big question is whether Wright, Sharpton, and others circle the wagons and start going after Obama.

I thought Sharpton was too busy shutting down NYC.  :p

Oh, I love it...now that Wright's a liability, he decides to denounce the man after 20 years.

This is not "the person I met 20 years ago."  Hmmmm...even though I quoted him in my books and was present for a lot of the batshit things he's said over the years....

Except that I know people that voted for him.

Did YOU know that Bush would win?

And really that sense of him being fucked was meant to only describe the feeling I had during the cheering.

Edit: I think I'm just stuck in some odd gear. So... thanks for the quote...

Quote from: jgantsI thought Sharpton was too busy shutting down NYC.  :p

The problem is that Obama made a statement that undermined Sharpton's latest efforts in NYC and if Obama thinks he can dis' Wright, Sharpton, Louis Farrakhan, and others, I think he's got a big surprise waiting for him.

Again: Its a quote.  It applies, but obviously its not a perfect match. Do you need me to explain it in small words of one syllable or less?

You think Kerry will win the vote.  Kerry gets big cheer. Lots of peeps like Kerry. Bush will lose.

Bush wins.

Hard to grasp. Kerry had cheers.

People like Kerry.

Dar confused.

It doesn't matter if you know people who voted bush or not, and MY opinion matters even less. What matters is your limited view of the ground (that is, the people around you), just like that of the poor bitch I quoted, was that 'YOUR GUY' had to win because he had all the support...

... obviously ignoring that there are vast swaths of the voting public who obviously felt differently...

Predicting elections is a tough business, and as recent and not so recent history shows, even following the news, the polls and the voice of the intarwebz is not a path to success any more than throwing darts at a ballot is...
