Title: Highlander TCG
Post by: James McMurray on December 08, 2006, 01:51:25 PM
I don't know if anyone here ever played the Highlander card game, but if you did, or you're a fan of Highlander, the game is being reenvisioned and rereleased by the creator. Check it out at //www.highlandertcg.com.

There can be only one!

Highlander is one of my favourite movies.

I took the Immortals' advice: "There can be only one".

No sequels, no TV shows... not RPGs or CCGs. :)

I was at a friend's house and heard part of Highlander 2 on the TV in the next room.  Oh. My. God.  I'm glad I've only seen the first movie. :D

I played the original CCG quite a bit and we still have a pretty good group here that plays from time to time.  We're going to give the second edition a try and hope the changes work for the better.

It was a pretty fun game back in the day.  Although there were way to many promo's and Ultra Rare chase cards.  Hopefully they won't go that route this time around.  But it's not looking to good so far on that note.

The beta set has 12 chase cards at one per booster box, so they're definitely going that route. I haven't seen 2e, but if it's like 1e then a lot of the chase cards were nice but not really necessary. The promos were where they stuck it to you, but I know that the first 2e set is supposed to already have a reprint of one of the better promors (Divine Intervention).

I don't know what the new versions of the crystals do, but there are three in the beta set and they're normal chases. In the first edition sets the crystals and A&Ts were ultra-rare chase cards so you had to open multiple boxes of boosters just to find one.

I LOVED the TV series...only ever had a few promo cards a store gave out for free.  Was interested in the game in the past  - but I could never find the decks.
My little Klin-sister and I used to watch the show together.  She had a major crush on Adrian Paul.

Well the two beta sets they have put out for second edition so far have been really badly done.  From crappy production quality (not centered pictures, differently cut corners and blurry text), coallation problems (missing rares, missing premiums, most of the rares in a box all being the same) and various issues on mechanics and balance.

So currently in this area the second edition is dead and none of the old players are going to keep buying it.

That's about the way I feel about the second movie.  The only good Highlander was the first one and about half of the series (seasons 2 through 4).

The CCG mechanics and setup are actually very well done.  The execution of the game by the owner is something else all together.

There's been a change in ownership of the Highlander CCG. The printer has bought the game's license. Anyone who knows anything about the original owner knows this can only be a good thing for the game. It also means that instead of being forced to rush a poor product out the door, the printer will be able to refine the process and make the cards both look and collate well. From what I understand this has already been done thanks to some time taken out of the fast release schedule.

Another good thing this brings in the Highlander RPG. Margaret Weis is making the game, so it'll have decades of experience backing up the rule set. I don't know much about her recent stuff like Serenity, but have heard good things. I really liked what she did for AD&D back in the day, so I'm jazzed about this part.

Their new website is //www.highlanderccg.com. They're offering a special deal right now that ends on Monday. You get everything they print for the next three years, which would be 12 boxes of cards and who knows how many RPG supplements. They're doing it to get a shot in the arm to jazz up advertising to make sure the game appeals to more than just the older players.

I can't afford it either, but some folks might be interested. If I could afford it I would.

Well with RapidPOD's history I'm not holding my breath for a great product being delivered all of a sudden.  After all most of the production problems have been on their end and when people started complaining Ken suddenly vanished from the forums and yahoo group.

Also why make the 500 dollar offer before putting out any sort of press release on the property changing hands is beyond me also.

Because the offer is happening no matter what. The press release is awaiting a couple of things to happen so that more info can be put in it.
Title: Hello
Post by: Crawdadr on April 05, 2007, 09:45:32 AM
Well folks I would first like to say hello since this is my first post on this site.:haw:

So some updates on whats happening in the Highlander world. First it turns out that the Printer failed to get the rights to Highlander. Second I am happy to inform all of you that the next set Remirez is schedualed for late april early may release. If we are lucky the card quality and collolation will be eminsly improoved with their new printing company. The last two sets were beta and I hope they have learned whats needed and will produce a quality product.

Well thats all for now on the Highlander front. Thanks for reading my first short post! :pundit:

Yep, Mike Sager (creator of Swordmaster system) has managed to regain the license from Davis after a couple of weeks of tussling.
The //www.highlandertcg.com site is back up again.

Given that the printer of the Beta sets is yet to be paid and the first tournament organisers are yet to be compensated as agreed, I'm hoping that the mistakes of the past are not about to repeat upon us in the present, especially since the game play is actually improved!

All these questions and more shall be answered... stay tuned! :D

I'll be sure to let you know if I hear :)
