This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I watched the final chapters tonight, and they were bloody brilliant. James Purefoy (Mark Anthony) stole the show, period.

And Pullo... nuff said! :haw:

James McMurray

Definitely one of the best shows to hit TV in recent years. I'll miss it.

Grimjack

Damn my basic cable.  Damn it straight to hell:mad:

On the other hand, all the HBO shows end up somewhere else sooner or later....hopefully not too sanitized to be enjoyable.

Black Flag

Great show. They did a lot with what they had to work with, and they set a new standard for shows based on ancient history. I'm in Classical Studies, and most of the people in my dept. are fans of the show, and that's saying something. Even if all the details weren't historical, they still captured the spirit really well.

Pullo and Vorenus are so totally Player Characters.

Hell, Caesar even says at some point, basically, "I should have you both executed but you're clearly blessed by the gods, or something."

Obviously that's paraphrased. :D

That makes sense - he almost stole the scenes when he was in "A Knight's Tale" years ago.

This is what a really cool FANTASY RPG should be like :

Best thing I've seen on TV in a very long time. The Pullo and Vorenus idea was brilliant, interweaving them with the main story elements we all know about, sometimes even influencing them (or changing them from known history). A great inspiration for historical games, IMHO.

If they use the same sensibilities for the Game of Thrones series, I'm in geek heaven.

Let's pray, let's pray.

HBO is the only one I trust to do a decent Song of Ice and Fire series.

And yes, me and my wife are watching Rome, and so far we're loving it.
Grając zaś w grę komputerową, być może zdarzyło się wam zapragnąć zejść z wyznaczonej przez autorów ścieżki i, miast zabić smoka i ożenić się z księżniczką, zabić księżniczkę i ożenić się ze smokiem.

And by your sword shall you live and serve thy brother, and it shall come to pass when you have dominion, you will break Jacob's yoke from your neck.

When does that hit?

And yeah I was all about Pullo and Vorenus, but James Purefoy was certainly well worth my time viewing this.

All in all I give it an 8 out of 10.

Well, Martin is supposed to write for it, so I guess... 2084?
It was announced this january and not much has happened since. I just hope they don't consider Ron Pearlman as too old for the Hound.

Regarding the actors, don't forget Polly Walker. From the blood-drenched beginnings to the final confrontation with Roman uber-bitch Livia... Best Roman matron I've ever seen.
