This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

...for me at least.

I used to be an officer of the University of Cincinnati Film Society in the '80s and '90s...as a result I tend to follow or enjoy good character actors.

My favorite Guest ?

W. Morgan Sheppard (a.k.a. William Morgan Shepard)
http://imdb.com/name/nm0792003/

On Thursday I just stopped and didn't get an autograph and told him I enjoyed his parts over the years and kidded with him that he knows what its like to wear a Klingon forehead...he motioned me over and starts shooting the breeze with me and telling stories about acting jobs, the director David Lynch, teaching acting classes ...etc.....  and I wasn't even paying for an autograph or anything!!! He just wanted to chat.

So, Saturday I decide to get an autograph - AGAIN...he anmd I start talking about actors and movies. I almost think he would've loved to grab lunch and just talk wioth me and 1 or 2 other people. Great friendly 'ol character actor.

His son Mark Sheppard was there too - better known to some of you as "Badger" from the show "Firefly" and Baltar's lawyer from this past year of nBSG.

Here is the wikipedia article on him :

Cool. He's a fine actor.

What did he have to say about Lynch?

Quote from: DrewCool. He's a fine actor.

What did he have to say about Lynch?

Mainly that he was a nice guy as a director ...even tho he makes some pretty weird movies.

When Sheppard got cast for his part as the Pimp in the movie Wild at Heart - he didn't have to audition or read for it . Lynch had used him before in a small part in The Elephant Man.  David Lynch just called him up direct and said I want you for this part , are you interested ? - and W. Morgan Shepard said yes.

The secretary from the studio called and asked if he wanted anything special in his trailer or at the set ...even tho it was a two week shoot for him. So, he said "Okay yeah some orange juice, diet cola, two naked 14 year old girls on the set to wait on me ...." He waited for a resaponse - and she kept typing. He had to tell her : "Darling, I was joking. ".

However, If you remember the first scene in Wild at Heart where his character appears there are two topless girls dancing in the scene in the background. One of those two girls was a student in Sheppard's acting class. He asked his students if any of them wanted a small part in a movie he was about to be in .... then informed them that there might bne some nudity . One of them said :"Well if you're going to be there, then I guessw its alright."
THATS the girl in the scene.

David Lynch asked her if she had her SAG card yet , when she said no. Lynch paused filming...wrote 5 lines of Haiku and had her character say those lines during her screen time - because of that she qualified for her SAG card.
Sheppard thought that was nice of Lynch ....he was always doing stuff like that and was very good with the actors.

Excellent stuff. I've yet to find an actor who didn't have a good word to say about Lynch. Not only is he possessed of incredible talent but genuinely seems to be an all-round good guy, which is a rarity given the business he's in.

Sheppard sounds like a good bloke, too. I'd have love to have met him, although I suspect he'd quickly tire of my continual pestering for Hawk the Slayer anecdotes...:D
