This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

(Gasp!) A candidate that actually debates political philosophy

TIME: Fred Thompson on Federalism.

Ok, tRPGs Republicans, I only know this guy from cinema and TV. The poll to the right suggest he could have a shot at the nomination. What do you think of him? Where does he stand on issues?

He was in the senate or Congress BEFORE he became an actor - matter of fact his first role was playing himself in the movie version of a famous case. He just discovered he liked the acting stuff  and that he did alright at it as a character actor .

Here is the wikipedia article on him : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Dalton_Thompson

He always struck me as a "No BS" kind of guy.

Whether you like his politics or not - he is an interesting guy.

The election is a long way down the road.  I've got mostly a good opinion of Mr. Thompson. However, I've not delved into his politics to any great degree, so it's hard to say.

And that's the same with most of the candidates - because it's so damn early in the game. I know Mrs. Clinton mostly because of her time as First Lady (less so as Senator). I mean, Obama is from Illinois and I still don't know that much about him (except that anyone from Illinois politics is bound to be corrupted somehow).

I do get a sense that he's willing to defend his ideas, and debate issues like federalism - which is near and dear to my heart.  He even looks at the states as 50 experiments in government - the  way I think IMHO it was meant to be. So mostly positive reaction with reservations on quality and quantity of information.

Fred is one of those rare guys that even though I disagree with him on many issues politically I'd still vote for, simply because he actually seems like a decent, non-corrupt guy just trying to do the right thing.

Mcrow

Thompson is probly the only Republican I would vote for.

Grimjack

Fred seems to be a pretty solid guy.  When congress was investigating whether the Chinese has been giving campaign contributions to politicians in exchange for waivers to get advanced missile parts, Fred Thompson was one of the few I recall involved in the hearings that wasn't either ducking the issues or trying to play politics with it.

He appears to be a very level headed and articulate politician and that is a rare thing these days.  I hope he does decide to run.

A small update on ole' Fred.  He's picking fights with Michael Moore.  Which is just all manner of funny.

He hasn't "officially" thrown his hat in the ring, but he's the guy I'm gunning for.  I and my family will be pushing the Thompson button given the chance, come Primaries.

Actually, Moore started it (to drum up buzz for his new "documentrary"), but Fred certainly finished it. I don't have a link to the video reply handy, but DAMN I wish we had a President (or any elected official for that matter) who would just come out and slap someone down like that. Screw decorum, I want a guy in an open-necked shirt and smoking a cigar who just flat tells it like it is.

THAT is a man I could vote for.

I'm still officially unaffiliated, but I kinda like Fred Thompson.

I don't like any of the democrats so far.

Word.  Smoking the cigar strictly because Moore called him a hypocrit for liking Cubans.

Here's the video

I can't find what started it, but I'm sure Moore's side can be found at his website.

Please run, Fred.

Sosthenes

I wonder when we'll have the first head of state blogging... (and which state?)

Sosthenes: enjoy. Guy's a total scumbag who's played a big part in running our economy into the ground (and now desperately trying to fix it before his popularity plummets to single figures), but hey, he's got a blog. :haw:

Fred posts a youtube video FTW.

Gotta love the guy.

Looks like Fred's in.  For GOPers, he's definitely my fave right now.
