This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Now with all my reservations about eReaders, once I get my new droid phone I will download some eReader apps into it and use the free books. Anyone have any thoughts on this option?
"Meh."

I have the Sony PRS350SC (5" Touch) and it works fine for reading in direct Australian sunlight. I also have an older edition 6" touch, which isn't as good in the sun but still easily read.

I'm not sure I understand.  E-ink works perfectly fine in direct sunlight.  It's not backlit and actually relies on outside lighting.  I read my Nook outside frequently.  Or did I misunderstand the complaint...?

It may also be different generation of Kindle's here, mine is almost a year old, but it was a low end one then. It is readable in sunlight, as much as anything with a screen that can pick up any glare.

The books might cost almost as much, but think of the money you'll save on bookcases.

One of the difference I noticed between the Kindle and the Sony's, is that the Sony has a better non-reflective screen. Possibly another reason I have no problems reading in the sun on the device.

I had no problem with the original Nook in direct sunlight, and the new Nook Touch has even more of a non-glare screen than the original.  No problem at all.  I admit I've never done more than glance at the Kindle, so I can't really compare the screens...
