This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: TonyLBIncreasingly, these days, if somebody gives me shit over my beliefs, my first reaction is to think "Does this guy matter enough to me that I should, even for a moment, become the kind of guy who lobs insults around on an internet forum?  Do I want him to give him the power to change me that way?"

there are few people in life which really matter.  folks on the internet, and folks in general, don't.  immediate friends & family, that's about it.

i also don't see the point in hiding anything.  i like things as varied as metal and the "marmalade boy" manga.  variety is the spice of life

i enjoy some of the drama that erupts from these online personality conflicts, tho.  just like watching a trainwreck

I got plenty of insecurities. None have anything to do with gaming. Fewer cause me to get all angry over internet stuff.

Oddly, I find that I don't so much come here to spout about what I like and dislike as to find out what others like and dislike. I didn't know much outside of D20 coming here, and reading here helps me figure beforehand what about a game rocks or is wonky before I spend my hard earned money on it. Also, it helps to know what options I have in designing my own game. To give one example, I learned what dicepools are on this site... and to avoid them like the plague in any game I intend to sell.

That said, I prefer opinionated ranting about the content of RPGs... be it settings, systems, published adventures, hell even minis... as opposed to the reactionary rants against individuals and sites I don't give a shit about. If I gave a shit about Ron Edwards, I'd read his essays (or if I gave a shit in the negative, I'd avoid his essays). Likewise for the Forge or RPGnet or even Pundit. Anyway, this hate-on for people I don't know or care about only bothers me in that it's so interspersed with actual RPG discussion. Which means I have to read a bunch of shit I don't care about to get to the stuff I do care about. I still read because the good stuff is still worth the time spent looking, but... my patience is not infinite.

Yes! On this path lie madness and dead squirrels.

But I know so many smart people who are entirely too concerned about what other people think. Ohh, so someone hates your idea, so what? You don't need to defend it if that person is a MORON. In fact, you'll just look even more stupid for doing so.

You know... there will be a day when I take my own advice.

...And BTW, I did a Google for "Hai Sarabai", and this thread was the 5th result returned. Now everyone will know your dark secrets.

The one with the scene in that bunker, where the soldiers are all sitting there "Oh shit, we're gonna die," and the girl/ultimate-weapon is hanging with them, trying to work up the willpower to use her abilities again, and she's just infinitely weary ... not physically, but down in her soul ... weary of being this weapon that destroys and obliterates, weary of people counting on her.  But then the soldiers talk her into wiping out an entire advancing regiment, and you see in their eyes as they're doing it that they know that they're robbing this girl of her innocence piece by piece, and they hate themselves for it, but they're just not ready to die to protect her?

It's that one, right?

Ever since I got a GreenCine subscription my ability to keep up in obscure anime conversations has been growing by leaps and bounds.  Some day I may even feel that I deserve the title "otaku."

I hate overpowered characters and I loathe most standard TV programming, but I love Lois and Clark.

There is an awful lot of love for 'girl manga' on this forum. No wonder I don't fit in anymore.  I... I just don't know you guys anymore....:(

Gimme Berzerk any day...

Actually: I haven't been happy with Anime since I was spoiled by Ninja Scroll and Ghost in the Shell, everything... and I do mean EVERYTHING has paled in comparison to those first exposures.  I am a sad sad little Pika...:deflated:
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

Here's my website. It's defunct, but there's gaming stuff on it. Much of it's missing. Sorry.

I've got a blog. Do you read other people's blogs? I dunno. You can say hi if you want, though, I don't mind company. It's not all gaming, though; you run the risk of running into my RL shit.

Aw, heck, I like shounen too!  But we were talkin' about stuff that people might be judgmental about.  I can't imagine how anyone could be judgmental about me liking richly animated sequences of people's body parts being torn asunder.  That's just good clean fun.

So it's not that we don't love you Spike.  It's just that you're not edgy like shoujo.

If you like science fiction anime, give Planetes a try. It ranks right up there with an intelligent, character driven plot.
