Has anyone else seen this film?

My wife and I loved it. The dogfighting sequences rocked, and the script held together enough that I was easily able to forgive a few minor quibbles. I'm no expert on WWI or flying, but the technical details 'felt' right to me.

If you get a chance to see it on the big screen while it's still in theaters, I recommend that you do so. I know I'm going to get in when it comes out on DVD, but I also know that the flight sequences won't be quite the same on the small screen.

I loved it, though I thought the music was horribly handled. If I notice the music ina film, it's because it's bad or badly handled. I am now working on In Harm's Way: Aces in Spades...

One of my favourite board games was Lambourne Games' Wings Over France, and favourite Amiga computer game was Cinemaware's Wings.

Id certainly see a small market for this kind of RPG/Boardgame mix that worked well with WOF.

If your serious about this,

would you still keep the multiple pc's per player gig? If nothing else I'm getting a mental picture of group crew rushing as fast as they can to get a plane patched, re-fueled, and re-armed so they can send the boy back up asap, or perhaps running to man AA guns to try to keep the enemy off the airstrip long enough to let the ground crew work and to give the pilot time to take off. (I'm sure I'm mixing WWI and II in there, but it's what comes to mind for troup chars if you aren't going to have them be wingmen or somesuch.)

Excellent little boxed games that take about 2 mintues to teach and are complete in the box. A little pricey, esp. if you want more planes of each type per side. But no need to paint and assemble plane miniatures and the cards are very good. Really does a nice job of recreating the flying styles in a small space. And there's Snoopy as the Red Baron for the game!

Still like Dawn Patrol's campaign booklet for generating period detail. :cool:

Yes, but in Aces in Spades, it would be very optional. With fighter pilots, you only really need one PC per player. I think it would be a llot of fun, and I'll put the mechanics and ground crew in, but they could as easily be NPCs.

Anyone remember Ace of Aces? Ahh... now THERE was a game!

Also, when I was a kid wayyyy back in the early 80's I found a game at a flea market or somesuch when I was at my grandmother's for the summer. Think it was an old Milton Bradley WWI fighter game (probably from the late 70's?) that had little planes on plastic stands (Triplanes for Germans, Camels for Brits) that were about two inches across, and you indicated altitude using little markers on their stands. Kinda like a precursor to clicky-base games now that I think about it. And the board was cool - an aerial view of bombed-out French countryside. Wish I could remember the name of that thing. I still had one of the Triplanes up until about 15 years ago probably.

That would be Dogfight - lord I played that game a million times as a kid!

Sweet - thanks! I don't think I ever found anyone to play it with but I had a blast with that game while I was there that summer - no idea what ever became of it.

(edit - checked the auction) Hell yeah, that's it for sure. I'm really tempted but I have NOBODY around to play it with. Thought the propellers where the same color as the planes. Maybe mine was a later version. So cool though.

My best bud Mark had it. We played it when we weren't roleplaying with plastic dinosaurs and green army men. Heck, I'm pretty sure we roleplayed with the planes too! This was in the mid sixties. Mark was a Beatles fan, and Magical Mystery Tour was new.
