Title: Dave Chappelle's Sticks & Stones is free speech at its finest!
Post by: Spinachcat on September 02, 2019, 07:52:38 PM
If you have Netflix, I highly suggest watching Dave Chappelle's new comedy special appropriately titled "Sticks & Stones."

If you're new to Dave's comedy, be aware he trashes every-freaking-body. The comparisons between Dave and George Carlin are accurate as both didn't care for political correctness and happily napalmed everyone for the sake of commentary and humor.

Chappelle Show fans will be happy to see Dave back to form. To me, it felt very Chappelle Show and I'd love for him to relaunch his show (or a new one), but I know that's doubtful. His previous Netflix specials were good, but the outrage culture going after Kevin Hart, long dead Michael Jackson and the Jussie Smollett idiocy lit a fresh fire in Dave's gut.

What's awesome is Dave standing firm for free speech as a comedian. Instead of mouthing the approved SJW words, Dave torches without mercy. He even roasts his own fans! That's balls of steel...or he's so burnt out and so rich now that maybe he's reached "I've got enough cash for ten lifetimes, fuck y'all" and Sticks & Stones might be his goodbye.

I'm a fan of a band called Hatebreed who have been accused of being both Neo-Nazis and SJWs. I enjoy them because they sing about their raw emotions, and seem okay with letting their audience decide what the lyrics mean to me. It's easy to see Hatebreed's metalcore punk chants being war cries of both AntiFart and Trump fans, as their music is anger against the status quo. For whatever reason, that's how I felt watching Dave. If you want to believe Dave's jokes represent either support for you or hate for you, its clearly your choice. That aspect of Dave's style has always impressed me.

Also, make sure to wait through the credits for the "super secret" Q&A session at the end.

BTW, there is an added reason to watch Sticks & Stones....

The SJW outrage brigade and the MSM clowns are shitting all over Dave and his daring to step out of line. They are coming down hard on Dave to make him an example to other comedians who might be inspired by Dave's willingness to embrace freedom of speech, freedom of thought, and freedom to make jokes about anything...including so-called forbidden topics.

As of today (9/2/2019), Rotten Tomatoes has a ZERO 0% score for his special and there are ZERO audience reviews.
The special came out at August 26th, a full week ago, yet Rotten won't allow you to read any audience reviews. What does that tell you?

It's also being shadowed on Netflix, not showing up on any tabs unless you search for it.

I need to get around to seeing this. Not least because it deserves another view on Netflix.

I found it on the "new this week" tab.

They are are not happy with Dave:

Quote from: Kyle Smith, August 26, 2019In Sticks & Stones, Chappelle also does a long, mediocre bit about the "alphabet people" who 'took 20 percent of the alphabet for themselves," which turns out to mean the "LGBTQ community." This leads him to an extended metaphor about a car trip that doesn't work and at least one witty observation about people who think they're born in the wrong body. "What if I was Chinese but born in this n***** body, and for the rest of my life I had to go around making that face, 'Hey, everybody, I'm Chinese'?" he asks, breaking into a stereotypical Asian voice for the line like a 1960s Vegas act. Would people get mad, he wonders? "Stop making that face, it's offensive!" he imagines people saying. "What, this is how I feel inside!" he'd reply. Funny.

and

QuoteChappelle's strangest bit takes him from his "very good friend" Louis C.K. to the new abortion restrictions in Georgia. He says that C.K.'s habit of masturbating in front of women made him "the least threatening motherf***** the Earth has ever seen." He "didn't do anything that you can call the police for," Chappelle argues, although just because behavior isn't illegal doesn't mean it isn't revolting. "They ruined this n*****'s life and now he's coming back playing comedy clubs and they're acting like if he's able to do that, that's gonna hurt women. What the f*** is your agenda, ladies?"

I think it's fairly safe to say that the 99% approval from the people that clicked on his face without being paid to do so are the only ones Dave gives a fuck about.

To be able to do an audience score you have to pay to Shilling Tomatoes for the privilege. So people paid to see the special and then to make their reviews.

If only the companies saw who is really putting their money where their mouth is.

Hmm, I missed the Q&A at the end. Guess I'll have to watch it again. Darn.

As a comedy special, I don't think he's as hysterical as Ron White. But as entertainment with very relevant social commentary, the show's basically a must-see. He actually mocks his audience in the opening minutes of the act...that's some serious balls.

Meh, wasn't that funny, wasn't terrible. Though if this is what passes for edgy in comedy today, they really need to move that boundary another thousand miles and start being really offensive again.

Finally saw it. I laughed. I think Chapelle could get me to laugh at him reading a phone book though. :D

I think his story about the transgender audience member was a great point. It's funny because it's offensive, and not including anyone because they might be offended is, to use the SJW term, non-inclusive.

Pat, I totally understand Chappelle's special was less edgy than much of the Chappelle show. But in 2019, "offensive" is anything that doesn't tow every iota of the SJW agenda. So Chappelle (or Bill Burr, Joe Rogan, or any other comic) even tiptoeing outside the lines is notable. Unfortunately.

I'm actually surprised there's so much SJW claptrap around Chappelle's special, but DL Hughley's Contrarian special from last year was even more "offensive", but I don't remember the SJWs making a peep.

I absolutely love Ron White.

I've always thought of Dave Chappelle as social commentary first and comedy second. Much like Carlin.

I didn't find it that funny, in the same way Chris Rocks' last comedy special wasn't as funny as his past standup shows. It had some interesting commentary.

I didn't find it offensive, but at the same time, some of the commentary was disingenuous.  Like, Dave, do you really need an explanation of why you can't say f****t? How would you react if a White comedian was throwing the word n****r around in his act? Not something that angered me, but I did roll my eyes a bit at that.

Oh sure. If Dave Chappele isn't a n****r, then a gay person isn't a f****t. That's where is argument breaks down.
But I think he just wanted to throw the n****r and f****t words around because they're forbidden.

My take on it was ultimately, Dave C is still considered a "n word" by the people who control the media, which is why he's allowed to say it, in much the same way homosexuals can use the "f word."
