Hey, I liked it! I wasn't expecting to, but I thought it was humorous, had decent action and a decent plot. Especially for a first episode. Plus, the lady agent is hot!

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Kind of a Lone Gunman vibe. I'm curious to see if they can keep the humor interesting for twenty shows.

I watched it on a TiVo preview along with Journeyman, The Bionic Woman, and The Big Bang Theory. I thought Chuck was good, though didn't like the whole idea of agents from different agencies wanting to kill each other. I plan to keep on watching it.
I also liked Journeyman quite a bit. It's a well-worn idea (e.g., Quantum Leap) but has some nifty twists. I also plan on keep watching that, which means that I think NBC has a pretty killer 3 hours on Monday.
Big Bang Theory was cute and they actually must have a science consultant because their science jokes actually weren't stupid. But given that it's up against Chuck, I expect Chuck to win and Big Bang Theory to be a bust in the ratings.
Bionic Woman was better than I expected, but it was hard to tell exactly how the show is going to play out once it gets going.
Still waiting for Reaper, Pushing Daisies (which looks interesting in the commercial), and New Amsterdam. Moonlight could be interesting but I don't give it a chance at 9PM on Fridays against Sci Fi's lineup.
How's that for not being contrarian?
Chuck has Jayne. As if *I*need any other reason to watch :D
But I did like it...
Just watched this myself (thank god for DVRs). I really liked it! The writers are obviously geeks, so Chuck and his buddies ring true.
Seeing Jayne in a Buy Lots shirt was a hoot. :haw:
Heh...Chuck is starting to get into his role as spy guy...
"It's a game..a scary game..." :D
There's something about that little hot dog necklace that made the whole outfit 10 times hotter.

Well, let's just say I don't know what color her eyes are...

She has eyes?!
Wait...does Adam Baldwin even have a head?
Resurrecting this thread to say that I think Chuck has done an excellent job of putting the entire hour to good use. I think I'm starting to look more forward to Chuck than Heroes, though at least some of that has to do with the lack of focus Heroes has had so far this season. I'm enjoying Journeyman quite a bit, too.

I'm enjoying it and do think Heroes has been a mixed bag so far, but the last few episodes have left me a little meh.
I've been enjoying Journeyman as well, but I fear both it and Chuck are still in danger of being canceled.

Yeah, but at least it seems to be building toward something interesting now.

From what little I've been reading, Chuck is in better shape than Journeyman, though this article (http://www.buddytv.com/articles/chuck/nbc-orders-three-more-scripts-12341.aspx) suggests good news for both of them and this article (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i172f2c4d34dd57669be1b41fe5f8a55f) suggests some good news for Chuck. This article (http://tvbythenumbers.com/2007/10/29/chuck-renew-or-cancel/) suggests a pessimistic scenario, though.
Quote from: John MorrowYeah, but at least it seems to be building toward something interesting now.
Yeah, using the same device that delivered the plot last year. I'm hoping for some fresh stuff.

Wow, a good Chuck and a good Heroes last night.
I guess that means Bryce did just what the government was going to do: Took advantage of Chuck's natural abilities. I wonder what else Project Omaha was up to...

Yes, and I thought Journeyman was good, too. I was starting to get worried that we'd see a major timeline reset on Heroes but the coming attractions suggest that they have something more interesting in mind.

I get the feeling that there is still a lot of depth there for them to reveal. I find myself looking more forward to Chuch and Journeyman that Heroes at this point, but Heroes has been pretty good, too.
I've really enjoyed Chuck. The casting on that show was excellent, I thought. A bit campy at times, but always fun. And you gotta love (hate) Captain Awesome.
The Office is still my #1, though. Wish we'd see some more hour-long episodes. Can't get enough of it.
EDIT: Bionic Woman's been a really disappointment. When they try to make it fun, it comes off as too dark. When they try to make it (too) serious, it comes off too campy, milquetoast, or predictable. That saddens me, because I thought it could have been a good show.
The problem wth Bionic is some of us remember the origional, and ignoring the lack of special effects back then, find the new one is no where near as good.

Bite your tongue. Even slow, Heroes is the best thing on TV! :)
Quote from: John MorrowYes, and I thought Journeyman was good, too.
True. I was gleeful when we saw Livia jump, particularly the color of her wormhole. I'm actually looking forward to next episode, which is a first for me.

Yeah. Definitely seems like we moved into the second act and it's not exactly what I thought it would.

I agree. But I'd be happy even if it remains quality and "shallow."

For me, it's just that the new Bionic Woman is all over the place and dumb. The characters do dumb things. They say dull things.

That and Katee Sackhoff. Can't stand her in BSG. Can't stand her in Bionic Woman. Blech!

That whole little scenario was very cool and I can see that getting very interesting in the future.

Agreed. That was quite a twist in the coming attractions and TV Guides article on what's coming up suggests it gets mighty twisty indeed.
Quote from: SeanchaiI agree. But I'd be happy even if it remains quality and "shallow."
Oh, absolutely. It's a fun show in a way that light action shows just haven't been since the 1980s. That's what I really like about it. But it's also nice to see it work on other levels, too.
Quote from: John Morrow...says the person with one of the stars of Chuck as her avatar. :p
The awesome that is the man they call Jayne transcends the mind numbing effects of network television.
Plus, I wouldn't kick him outta bed for eating crackers:cool:

I don't get all the love for her. I think its because she's just butch enough, but has sufficient sweater puppies, to fit the bill either way you prefer it.
And I mean that in the best possible way, really.

Yeah. If they can keep the blend of comedy, action and just a little bit of pathos right, it'll continue to be must see TV for me.

So far, so good. And they've cast it really well, too.

The thing I love about it is that its plain as day that the writers are geeks. Just about every conversation between Chuck and anyone but the agents - I can HEAR IT between me and any number of my friends and/or family.
If there's one show on TV that geeks need to get behind 100%, its
Chuck. Really - its a show about US - as we wish we were. :)

The sad thing is that it's been programmed against
Big Bang Theory which, while not perfect, was also written by people who know what they are talking about. That show actually has funny physics jokes that are scientifically accurate. It's not as respectful of geeks as Chuck is, though.

Indeed, and its that respectfulness - yes, we may play
Call of Duty with tape on our fingers, or know
Zork in-jokes, or debate what kind of sandwich to take to a desert island for four hours - but we still love our family, want to succeed in Life, and can function in the Real World (tm) - that sets
Chuck apart, for me at least.
Why is that anyway? The tape thing. I've never been a fan of "real military" games myself Just Quake-style FPS games.
Keeps you from rubbing them raw on the controller buttons after playing for hours and hours and hours.
Which makes me wonder how cool that would be ported to a Wii....

If you have a Wii, you can apparently get the old TurboGraphx-16 game Dungeon Explorer for it. With 5 controllers and players, you'll have the best Gauntlet clone ever.
That would be awesome. But it's my nephew with the wii. Divorced parents competing... lucky brat ...

Depends on how you define "lucky".
 is what my last post needed - my darling 2 year old spilled juice in my keayboard and it's all messed up.

I could stand her , sit her, stand her up and... oh nevermind you get the idea.
I
Like Katee Sackhoff.
