This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Yep. HBO have given the go-ahead for the pilot to a proposed series for GRR Martin's A Song of Ice & Fire books.

If it is picked up and it goes forward at Martin's usual pace, expect the series to air sometime in 2012...

I expect that, if this is a go, that it will go forward quite smoothly. Martin's been writing for, what? forty years? But most of his stuff is unknown to the geek crowd because he worked TV for most of the middle of his career.  He knows how the studio's work.

I'm not sure the turn-around time on HBO series, but I know a Movie can take two to three years to produce, of which filming is ususally the quickest part.  Optimistically, I'd expect HBO series to be faster and I expect next year, two at the latest (if only because of how late in the year it already is...)...
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

Good news. I hope they do it justice.

I'm more concerned over whether Martin will actually finish his opus. The intervals between books grow ever longer and the man isn't getting any younger.

This. I hope either they do it right, or they don't do it at all.

My first priority is that he keeps writing cool books (and yes, I liked A Feast for Crows), even more than finishing ASOIAF. If he was to write crappy books, I'd prefer him not to finish it at all.

If you follow the link above to George's blog, there is now a link in an entry to a forum that does little more than propose actors i've never heard of for the roles. The folk involved in the pilot are ever so slightly active there.

It'll be interesting to see the reactions when they do finally announce the cast.

My suggestion is Christopher Eccleston as Ned Stark.
