Best Superhero Movie To Date

There's now a lot of really good superhero flicks to choose from (Superman, Batman, Batman Begins, Spiderman, Spiderman 2, Sin City) so what do you think is the Best Superhero flick thus far, and why?

For me, it's still Superman.  I think it really caught the soul of the Superman comics, for starters.  Reeve's performance was right on target.  It played on a theme that's always been popular with Superman: Despite all his powers, even Superman felt helpless.  It captured that theme perfectly.  Second, the theme song is one of the all time classics of any movie, anywhere.  It's instantly recognizable, and fits the film like a glove.  Finally, it doesn't take itself too seriously.  It was filmed in a time when comics weren't high art yet, and the film has a lot of levity.

"Otisburg, Otis?  Otisburg?"

Unfortunately, they got way too carried away with it in the sequels, but for this one movie (and to a certain extent, Superman 2), they really made a perfect comic book movie.

I might take it on the chin for this one, but I am partial to Batman Begins.

I think it did a great job capturing the notion that, in the end, Batman is just another man and has all the physical and emotional foibles that anyone else has.  Batman can get hurt and often does.  Bruce Wayne often has difficulty discerning the line between justice and vigilantism.

I think the movie did a great job capturing the essence of what I (IMHO) think makes Batman a little different from other superheroes.

As always, YMMV.
Their prison is only in their own minds, yet they are in that prison; and so afraid of being taken in that they cannot be taken out.

I think the Spider-man flicks are right up there.  I'm also partial to the Superman and Superman 2 and the first two X-men flicks are good, too (the second being better, IMO).  Batman and Batman Begins are both really good...it's a hard call, but I'll stick with Spider-man.  Everybody did a great job in nearly every aspect, "Great Power/Responsibility," Aunt May, spidey-costume, the whole she-bang...I'm not even offended by Might Morphin Power Goblin, personally.

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won\'t throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.

See I am not one to read the comics but I do have to say that I thought Sin City was a great movie and I also did like Batman Begins.

I really liked the way that they shot Sin City.  It made for a great visual feast as well as keeping with the original almost to a T.  So it has many good things about it.

Cyberzombie

Batman Begins, the Hulk, both Spiderman movies, both X Men movies, Daredevil, Batman, and Superman.  In that order.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some movies and I'll put 'em in the list as they're mentioned.

Yes, I did just put Hulk in the number 2 slot.  No, that wasn't a typo.  :p

Sin City isn't a superhero movie to me.  Comic book, yes, but not superhero.  If I were to include it, it would edge the Hulk out -- but I don't think it goes in this category.

I liked the Hulk, too.  I wouldn't put it at the top of the pack (that's just me), but in the recent slew of flicks it definately was better than Daredevil and a few others and still light years ahead of the stuff they were doing in the 80's.

I can't believe I forgot the Incredibles and Sky High, though...both good (with the Incredibles being the better of the two but both behind the Spidey flicks, IMO).

TiQuinn

Damn, can't believe I didn't think about The Incredibles either.

And yeah, Sin City isn't really a superhero flick.  I goofed mentioning that to begin with.

Not sure what may favorite would be, but I'd lean toward Batman Begins. Spider-Man is up there, too.

Batman Begins, the Incredibles, the Hulk, both Spiderman movies, both X Men movies, Mystery Men, Daredevil, Batman, and Superman.  In that order.

I, too, can't believe I forgot the Incredibles.  :o  Haven't seen Sky High so I don't have an opinion of it.  I added Mystery Men -- I finally saw that a couple months back and it's goofy fun.  :)

Fixed it for me. :)

Dear lord, I'm not the only one who liked the Hulk.

I really liked Batman Begins. Spiderman I was so-so on, but I really liked Spiderman II. I wouldn't have thought of The Incredibles, but it belongs on this list.  The X-Men movies I like or don't like according to my mood. :p

Shit! I always forget that one. And it's probably my favorite of them all.
