This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I'm told its "Elvis Week" in Memphis right now, marking the 30th anniversary of Presley's death.

I just found that very odd, that his fans would celebrate Elvis on the anniversary of his death, and from what I saw in the BBC it does look very much like a celebration.
The only other figure I could think of who's fans do this on the anniversary of his death is Jesus.

The same thought crossed my mind; all I can think is that many people (including myself) remember where they were when they got news of his death, and somehow connect that with their feelings about Elvis.

I wasn't much of a fan at the time, but over the last few years I've belatedly realized what a phenomenal talent he had.

Danger

To rather haphazardly quote some Mojo Nixon:

Elvis is everywhere
Elvis is everything
Elvis is everybody
Elvis is still the king

Man o man
What I want you to see
Is that the big E's
Inside of you and me

Yes Mojo, yes he is.
I start from his boots and work my way up. It takes a good half a roll to encompass his jolly round belly alone. Soon, Father Christmas is completely wrapped in clingfilm. It is not quite so good as wrapping Roy but it is enjoyable nonetheless and is certainly a feather in my cap.

A Memorex for the Krakens

Quote from: DangerElvis is everywhere

Man o man
What I want you to see
Is that the big E's
Inside of you and me

Mojo's song immediately came to mind reading Pundit's post.

For those who aren't familiar with Mojo Nixon's "Elvis Is Everywhere", you can watch it here.

The other thing that comes to mind is a novel by Jack Womack titled Elvissey.  In that novel, some folks from a dystopian future travel back in time to snatch Elvis and bring him back to their time period as an intended messiah.
