SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I Was Right Again: So Much for "Piracy is ruining us!"

Quote from: Hackmastergeneral;282779Probably the direct linking to Amazon, and someone watching it and having a spur-of-the-moment desire to own the complete set after laughing at the Fish-Slapping Dance for the bazillionth time.

If someone had direct linked to the amazon site before this, I bet the sales would have been good then too.

Good marketing increases sales. Of course some have confused pirating with marketing.

Quote from: CavScout;282719So, again, if someone were to post links to your games on the site, you wouldn't ban them, or otherwise moderate them?

While you shout that everyone should be on-board with piracy you'll do everything in your power to stop it with your own stuff on your site. Several folks have offered to host files of your games and you have steadily refused. Don't blame it on "laziness". That's a cop-out.

I would take action, based on the clearly stated rules of this site, against anyone promoting "piracy" on the site; not because I'm personally against piracy, but because that's a road to the disruption of this site and possibly legal consequences for theRPGsite from those who have the weight of the law on their side in these matters.

My "stuff" is not just my own stuff, a publisher who is not me has legal rights regarding its current printing.
