This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What new shows are any good?

I watched the season 3 premiere of Blue Bloods last night. It was pretty good. Michael Madsen was the bad guy (and I actually felt bad for him). It's still my favorite cop show.

Last night was the season 2 premiere of Once Upon a Time. It was pretty good. I hope the show can maintain it's quality over this season.

One Horse Town

A new series of old favourite Red Dwarf starts on Thursday on obscure channel Dave. Hopefully it's not awful.

The Butcher

Just saw Fringe season 5 episode 1 last night. Didn't really like it. Spoilers ahoy.

Spoiler
Of course, every mystery unveiled carries with it the risk of disappointment, and I much preferred the Observers when they were Men In Black straight out of urban legend rather than, well, a whole race of Kang The Conquerors.

Also the writing for Walter Bishop is very inconsistent; I loved it that in "Letters of Transit", when Forster implants back the frozen brain tissue (removed by William Bell at Walter's behest, many, many moons ago), John Noble stopped playing silly old Walter and went into ruthless genius (a la Walternate) mode. Now he's obstinate, calculating Walter one moment, and silly Walter the next.

On the science front, it's as full of holes as usual, but... I don't know about everyone else, but the less entertaining a movie or series gets, the more grating the handwavium gets. Is it just me, or is this a thing?

One Horse Town

Dunno if Pundit is interested in this kind of stuff, but i caught a new show on the BBC tonight - Ian Hislop's Stiff Upper Lip - The Emotional History of Britain.

It was the first in a series of 3 and was very interesting if you're a history/literature buff (and can ignore Hislop's smugness).

Couple of shows I really like even if they're "light" are Castle and Rizzoli and Isles. Burn Notice and Leverage are fun in predictable ways also.

I've given up on Revolution after the third episode, both for the lousy acting and holey plots, but more importantly because I feel like I'm watching a Lifetime original series, full of "Strong Independent Women" who are always right no matter how irrational they are, and all the men are ineffectual buffoons at best, and the only competent ones are the villains.

Walking Dead starts tonight, that's what I'm looking forward to most.  Once Upon a Time started a couple of weeks ago, but I haven't had the chance to watch the episodes I DVR'd.  I'm curious to see how they handle it now that the entire town is aware of the show's big secret.

One that I was surprised to find I enjoyed was Beauty and the Beast, the remake of the old 80s series with Linda Hamilton and Ron Pearlman.  This time, the beast is not some mysterious lion-man, but a military experiment gone wrong.  It definitely has that young pretty person angst the CW likes, but it looks like it could be fun in a mindless sort of way.

Tried Last Resort, didn't care for it.  Neither the plot nor the characters hold up for me, and I don't get the special forces dude who spends all his time in the bar.

Revenge is kind of a guilty pleasure of mine, but if you haven't been watching it you might have a a hard time following it.

I think with this being the final season they have just decided to take all the wackiness and craziness they can think of and roll with it, have some fun with it.

I too am giving up on Revolution.  I was on the fence a couple days ago anyway, but now after reading that cracked.com article where they compare it against Star Wars (and how the plots match almost perfectly), I think I'm done.  As the writer says, I would not be surprised at all to see Captain Nevil throw Monroe down a well in order to save what's her face (see, I can't even recall the main character's name).
D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

There's History of the World too, which is quite light (And has too much Andrew Marr), but picks up some interesting lesser-known historical stories to dramatise. Worth an hour of time to see the first episode, at least.

I'm not very impressed with it.

It's basically a tv version of History for Dummies.
