Title: Are they "down" - again?
Post by: Koltar on July 10, 2007, 02:17:41 PM
they as in the Big Purple , of course.

I recently had some computer issues and problems....as a result I lost all of my default passwords to various sites I was signed up with.
SO, I go to rpg.net on a computer I know retained my passwords - and all I see is a database error page with an apology from their administrators.

Can I blame Tangency again? Please?

Seems to be working fine, albeit a little slowly.

Heres a better question. Who cares? You should use your time posting about gaming (Or maybe the new transformers movie as I hear that its fun). As opposed to posting about another gaming site.

I've had a database error for most of the day, so something was up.

Scheduled downtime.  There was even an announcement.

But don't let that stop you from getting your hate on :(

Thanks  one Horse town, then it was them and not my computer.  Good to know.

And C.W., if you noticed  I said I was having computer problems. There was no "HATE" involved here - just trying to check if it was the website or my machine. I only 'hate" two people....neither one of them wears purple as far as I know...or posts on gamer websites.

I apologize, Koltar.  Now that I reread I do get that you were talking about computer problems, not taking a shot at RPG.net.

I've just become accustomed to a new thread being started every time RPG.net goes down or has even a minor technical issue :deflated:

Now, be nice.  There's nothing wrong with posting about other gaming sites.  In fact there are some really nice one's out there.  The Hinterwelt site and forums, John Kim's great resource site and, hey, I know, maybe we should start a thread listing all the FUN roleplaying related sites we've come across!

:D

Is there a gamer site that just posts maps? or something similiar ?

Sometimes I go to the WotC D&D site - and all I really want are the maps or artwork. mostly to see whats liftable for my future game use.

When we've had "Post your Map" threads up in the role playing section - I admit to saving the pics for possible future use.
Also that random map generator was really cool - who posted that ? Can it be made into a sticky?

Just a little pre-emptive action. It really makes no sense to me to bitch about the site being down. Then bitch about how they dont like the site. If thats the case why even goe there? That and I was feeling like a snappy asshole that day. (Yeah I know I shouldnt take out my aggression on strangers on the net, but hey I'm human. Sometimes things happen.)

Yes they do.  And we all have off days.

You are forgiven.

 Thanks man!!

Those are some good map links.
And yeah - I know they are back up again at the funky Purple & pink.
I am on my "THIRD"  hard drive at this point. Actually it is a brand-new, refurbished computer that I got for 200 bucks.(plus tax)

SO, I will have to try to rememnber my password for that site again. My passwords for here and SJG Forums are pretty easy to remember.

Just hate having to re-establish that stuff twice in less than 2 weeks.

Oh if you computer tech/geek types are wondering its a Compaq computer with 256 RAM , 1.7 Gigahertz something, and a 40 Gigabyte hard drive..

My buddy/friend/ computer consulting sort "KILROY" tells me its good enough for what I usually use a computer for. (Yes its the same  friend that plays the character of "Kilroy" in my Maggie's Marauders campaign)
I can vsit forums and play YouTube videos and look at those picture sites that a single guy normally looks at.

If I've ever corresponded with any of you via regular e-mail  - you might have to send me a NEW message or two so this sewtup can re-memorize your address.

Of map related stuff.

Map Mage (http://www.mapmage.com/) (freeware programs)

And how about this (ftp://ftp.funet.fi/pub/doc/games/roleplay/programs/mapping/index.html) FTP site with more programs.

Yet another page (http://home.paonline.com/zaikoski/ak/TOOLS.HTM) of software mapping tools &tc.

A Fractal Worldmap Generator (http://www.lysator.liu.se/~johol/cgi-bin/worldgen.cgi?Seed=77542751&Iterations=666&PercentWater=32&PercentIce=6&ScrollDegrees=34&ProjectionType=Spherical&Height=400)
