This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

With Halloween coming let's name some horror flicks we recommend.

''Shadow. Of the vampire'.  is a unique little. Horror. Movie based on the classic film 'Nosferatu'.

Voros

Witch
Audition
The Descent
The Haunting

ArrozConLeche

Rosemary's Baby
The Shining
Demons 1 and/or 2
C.H.U.D (Not very scary, but entertaining)
They Live
The Babadook
Suspiria
Pontypool
Exorcist 1 & 3
The Changeling
Fire In The Sky
Killer Klowns
Event Horizon
People Under The Stairs
Repulsion

Voros

Lots of good picks Arroz. C.H.U.D. is a direct to video classic. Pontypool is terrific and People Under the Stairs is very amusing but also works as a horror film.

Good lists so far.

Old stuff:
The Atomic Brain - very low budget but still fun
The Flesh Eaters - people trapped on an island with a mad Nazi scientist and his flesh eating critters
Return of the Vampire - Bela has a pet werewolf
The Pyx - Karen Black and a demon
Cry of the Werewolf - decent old werewolf movie
Society - freaky horror comedy with gnarly FX
The Other - creepy old movie, if you can find it

Newer stuff:
Absentia - the nasty truth about trolls
Banshee Chapter - Lovecraft's 'From Beyond' with drugs and gonzo journalism
Deathgasm - comedy about metal band that summons a demon
Necromentia - bleak horror that I liked
Oculus - mind-bendy story about an evil mirror

List of stuff I've never seen that I'm planning to watch this October:
- It Comes at Night
- The Girl with All the Gifts
- The Blackcoat's Daughter
- Prevenge
- Raw
- Under the Shadow
- The Autopsy of Jane Doe
- A Dark Song
- Hounds of Love
- The lure
- The Transfiguration
- We Are the Flesh
- I Am Not a Serial Killer
- Be My Cat: A Film for Anne

Here's a video I found on Youtube from 1977's Dead of Night anthology.
The rest of the movie is OK, but this segment kept me up most of the night first time I saw it:

Voros

That's written by Richard Matheson. Some real gems in 70s TV horror, Matheson and Spielberg's Duel, the original Night Stalker and Afraid of the Dark in particular.

Raw looks awesome.

The French horror film Inside is a relentess, intense and creepy gore shocker.

I'm a big Hammer Horror fan as well, Vampire Circus, Twins of Evil, Straight on Til Morning, Frankenstein The Monster from Hell, The Gorgon, The Mummy, et al.

Oh and a great inspiration for Machenish horror is Blood on Satan's Claw.

Speaking of hammer films,  they made one of my favorite movies,  a very good and intelligent film that combined horror and sf very well.  ''Quatermass and the pit'',  aka ''5, 000, 000 years to earth'' in America.

''Lifeforce'' has a lot of horror in it but that was usually overlooked due to the nudity it it.

Sadly today most horror movies can't hold a candle to just turning on the news.

There was a TV serial of that same story which went into more detail and was quite good (IMO).

Quartermass is excellent. Have you seen the same author's horror classic The Stone Tapes?

The Stone Tapes was creepy. I think it's on Youtube.

Voros

It was broadcast on BBC TV originally I think. Kneale also wrote the odd and underrated Halloween III.

The serial is great. The movie wasnt too bad either.

A quick few that come to mind.

From the 50s.
House on Haunted Hill: Vincent Price in this one and its a fairly good show too with a slow buildup.
Them: Giant bugs done remarkably well.

From the 60s
The Birds: Hitchcock classic of nature run amok.
Masque of the Red Death: Vincent Price again in a very stylish Corman film.

From the 70s
Alien: Part remake of It, part homage to Voyage of the Space Beagle.
Wicker man: Christopher Lee in this. I got lucky and was able to get it way back on VHS unedited. All the music intact.
The Abominable Dr Phibes: Vincent Price again. This ones alot of fun.
Trilogy of Terror: Zuni Doll...

From the 80s
The Thing: A somewhat more faithful adaption of Who Goes There?
From Beyond: A verrrry loose adaption of a HP Lovecraft story.

Voros

The Thing is one of the best horror films ever for me, up there with The Shining, NotLD and TCM.

Since Romero recently passed I'll also recommned his excellent 'vampire' film Martin.
