This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Voros;992982It is also because many disparate thinkers and artists get thrown under the postmodernist label. The only thing less clear than postmodernism is what people mean by modernism itself.

Probably because what is postmodern today is a reaction to what was modern by the millennium shift, and what was modern then was postmodern in the 90s, and THAT was a reaction to what was modern in the 70s and postmodern in the 90s .....
So, the postmodern today is actually post-post-postmodern, mixed and conflated with what's post-postmodern and actual postmodern from the 80s.
:p
I may not dislike D&D any longer, but I still dislike the Chaos-Lawful/Evil-Good alignment system, as well as the level system.

Fixed that for you.

Sure, sure you religious guys want to include the Deists when it suits you and exclude them when it doesn't. :p My version is just as serious as yours AC, but shorter.*

Modernism is anything newer than old stuff and prior to post-modernism.

"Begins singing New Guys don't wanna get banned" in the vein of Cyndi Lauper's Girls just want to have fun.

It's a slow Saturday and yes I'm that bored.

Quote from: TrippyHippy;992968I don't think Cam Banks ever went so far as that either.
On the subject of the narrative and definition of GameGate, he was pretty clear...

Quote from: Cam BanksThere's some new push by a couple of idiots to promote a Tabletop version of the GG hashtag on Twitter and other places.

DO NOT USE THIS HASHTAG. Do not legitimize these morons with their anti-feminist anti-social justice anti-equity bullshit. They are trying to ride the coattails of an already toxic and patently ridiculous crusade in video games to shine attention on things they don't like.

Also, if you're involved in trying to push this new thing out there, I don't think I can make it any more plain: no legitimate tabletop RPG publisher, designer, or developer is going to put up with this crap from you. You are a sad, sad little person.

PS: I have a degree in ethics, so don't even start with me.
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

And you think this is the same thing as keeping people out of the industry that don't agree with you?

Nice sureshot. But "New Guys don't wanna get banned" scans better.

It's a pretty clear implied threat:  attempt to bring Gamergate here and the industry will respond with blacklisting.
On that topic, yes, he crossed that line, in simple English. You may have a different opinion, one that I'm sure has nothing to do with your agreement with what Cam would say about GG.  As Gamergate itself is a topic that's not allowed in this particular forum, I think there's little to go further except to say you probably disagree on what he actually meant.

On that topic, yes, he crossed that line, in simple English.
Nothing implied in it.

He says 'don't use this hashtag' and points out that 'no legitimate tabletop RPG publisher, designer, or developer is going to put up with this crap from you'.

That's not a threat of blacklisting or 'keeping people out of the industry that don't agree with you'. That is saying 'you guys suck, so fuck off!'.

Although that bit about a degree in ethics does feel a bit like an appeal to authority.

But I'm far from objective on this point--Banks and I spent years jousting about our divergent approaches to Dragonlance. :)

Actually, it read more like "Don't even START with me" to me.  Like, "I will make your silly arguments look truly silly."

Sort of like my brother in law once trying to insist that "feudalism" meant "no use of currency."  Um... I have a BA in medieval history, douche for brains.
You should go to GaryCon.  Period.

Wait, did you just say you have a douche for brains as well as a B.A. in medieval history? :p
